Actually, now it seems ATi is pushing with an open sourced physics engine, Bullet by doing acceleration for it on ATi Stream.

Source is the same as 1st post (Techreport). Make of that what you will.

I actually think he's talking about Caustic RT. But, Caustic RT uses a proprietary graphics API called CausticGL, which is a heavily modified OpenGL. I doubt any developer is going to want to learn that. Also they claim they are going to make it 100x-1000x faster by next year, but that's a pretty insane claim. ATM currently they can't even come close to achieving real time.

Here is a video of it in action.

Would make sense, as Havok using opencl would still benefit Nvidia.

It is running in every Unreal Engine 3 game by default.
Even if you don't have a gpu that supports HW physX.

    Bullet supports CUDA :)

So, in effect, EVERY physics middleware has full support on Nvidia hardware including Physx, which is their own anyway.

most of the game (im at like 20%) i had physx on. twice the game was at 1-4fps and unplayable, other times it was perfect even with full AA @ 1920x1200.

if i lowered the AA to like 0 or 4x (dont remeber) it became playable with physx in those two levels.

on the other hand, if one simple glass breaks in mirrors edge (all ultra low 600x800 no aa, af, anything) the game goes to crap.

Why do you not mention AMD and Intel?

that was over a year ago, and nothing of the sorts happened.

though tbh i would like to seeing caustic actually pulling it off.

While nvidia won't force to use there physx i'am fine with that. But recently they are doing bad practice. Just look at NFS:Shi(f)t, what a crapy fps ATI owners get and the weirdest thing is that the game silently installs physx drivers though I have Radeon, why the hell i need those anyway?. And after removing physx drivers you end up with an error: the game couldn't be launched because phyxsloader dll or (somtehing like that) is missing. Bravo nvidia... NOT

the problems are with ati's cat 9.9 drivers, kylzer is using the cat 9.6 and the game is running fine.

Yeah I heard about 9.9 how bad they are, (I'am on 9.8). Maybe I should try 9.6 too. But why do I need physx to launch the game in the first place :3eyes:
