Descent I and II. The freedom of movement and the graphics. Played on Orchid Righteous 3D board...and they were exquisite

The atmosphere when playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for the first time, exiting Sidorovich's basement.

In more recent years, Metro Last Light, the last level in the snow, the build up, eary and desolate as hell. I actually think that level was more amazing before you actually encountered what was making those noises.

The Operation Flashpoint demo in June 2001 got me involved with the Flashpoint community which got me a job with the developer Bohemia Interactive in 2004 and that's where I met my wife who also joined the company, been together ever since, not as exciting a story as it sounds I'm afraid ;) But it's definitely the game that changed my life in nothing but positive ways so I'll always think of it fondly :)

Did you by any chance ever play Forsaken, and if so, what did you think of it as compared to Descent?

Well, thanks for helping to make Arma my #1 favorite PC game series of all time. I'm glad you had good things happen in your life because of it, too!

Had a list of dozens of titles since the late '80s...too long.

First game I just had to finish was Prince of Persia. Just wonderful.

Dynamix' Rise of the Dragon was just awesome IMO back then...moving things, blinking things, level interaction...(and crashing:()

    That commenting tho...

The game that grabbed me and utterly captivated me more than any other was:

    The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

In a somewhat similar fashion, a game with so much atmosphere that to this day it is one of the few games I have ever had dreams about --- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky in particular

The game that first "blew my mind" was DuckHunter way back on the Nintendo whatever it was around 1990. I only got to play it at a friend's house since we never owned any consoles, but being able to point the "gun" at the tv to shoot ducks was mind boggling to me at the time.

The last ninja (C64) - not only because of the gameplay but also the music score blew me away. still cant get away from it:

WingCommander (played on my 1st pc 1992)

Doom (1993) - At first i thought it was a loading screen, then i moved the mouse and had a heartattack. Never seen anything like it. Also got me into using modding tools for custom maps, sprites and sounds.

Starwars Rebel Assault (1993 - made me buy my 1st CDROM. Those stardestroyer details were amazing at those times)

Quake (1996) - first real 3D enemies. I went around the body of my 1st enemy and was totally fascinated.

Prey from 2006, looked great and had some interesting gameplay mechanics/weapons.

Doom 3, got it free with my XFX 6800GT, really looked amazing for its time and I hadn’t played any other Doom games except Doom 64 so the fact it deviated from previous games didn’t influence me really.

Unreal Tournament 2004, I still play this regularly, gameplay for me is unmatched and visually it actually holds up quite well.

Honestly... it's been a LONG time since I've been truly "wowed" by a game.
But, the ones I can remember off the top of my head...

Doom - 1993 - I had played Catacombs 3D, Wolf 3D... Blake Stone. But, it was Doom that really impressed and got me into FPS games.

Deus Ex - The amount of freedom this game offered was fantastic. From dialog choices, gameplay choices... and the ability to go where you want in the locations you're in, it really impressed.

Half-Life - The mixture of first person gameplay with environmental story telling, it showed a new direction for FPS games. While not a perfect game, it was damn good.

And, there have been tons of other games that I feel deserve a lot of attention.
But, in recent years, one game stood out to me when I played it. And it's one I keep going back to when people talk about titles that truly impressed.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - From the facial capture, the voice acting and performance. The way in which it handled it's story and presentation of mental illness.
Really an incredible title, and I can't wait for the sequel.
