nVidia paid a hefty premium to TSMC to get capacity. Maybe at launch it will still be "nightmare", but i sure hope couple months later the situation is roughly normalized.

HUGE mistake, I upgrade every generation and not because im rich but because its cheap this way
If you sell your 3090 in August before 4090 comes out and you kept the box and can properly clean it to like new condition, you can get maximum return.
4090 wont be that expensive 200-300$ [if the price is the same as 3090]
If you keep your 3090 in 4-5 years it will be worthless.

    Same goes for CPUs

Naa, I give my old stuff away.
Sometimes ask for a small payment if I need it.

I don't buy that. The market is flooded with "cheap" 3090s. You'll be paying close to double the current price of a 3090 for a new 4090.

Also, if you'd sold your 2080ti before the 3090 was released, there's a good chance you'd have had no graphics card for 6 months. Either that or you'd have to pay scalper prices for your 3090.

Don't use GELID Ultimate pads for your GPU. I did with my MSI RTX 3090 SuprimX and it caused a high level of coil whining.
At first I thought that I have messed up something, but I did several tests, spent many hours/days reassembling the card trying to fix the issue and the culprit really was the GELID Ultimate pads.
After switching from GELID Ultimate to Extreme my coil whining issue went back to normal as it were with stock pads.

I recommend using GELID Extreme pads, since those are softer which can be compressed better than Ultimate Pads.
That is important on the GPU because you need the GPU Cooler to properly compress over the whole PCB evenly, otherwise you may get mixed temperature results and/or increased coil whining.

Not sure If I am going 3070 or 4070. However I just purchased a EVGA 1300GT Super Flower 1300W because I wanted to make sure I have a high enough wattage PSU that is guaranteed to work with either 30 series or 40 series cards and plus EVGA had a sale on Amazon on certain PSUs and this was on of them it was $270 PSU on sale for $200. And at some point I am going to purchase a 5900x or a 5950x Ryzen CPU when the AM5 7000 series chips come out because it might cheapen the 5000 series chips.

Im aiming for 4070 to upgrade from 2080super but probably early next year until prices and availability gets better. Idk if 750w psu will cut it though seeing how nvidia going nuts with this cards.

4070 or 4070Ti for me, depending on availability and pricing. I'm done with halo and 80 SKUs. I no longer play those kind of games.

With Bitcoin teetering on dropping to $8k I don't think you will have any problem buying a 4000 series card. In fact I can see a glut of 3080's 90's TI's around release. [IMG]

That was my strategy as well when buying the 3090. Of course, should the performance requirements of games become so much higher than what the 3090 can supply, it might also be time for an upgrade.

If the rumors of these cards are true, I may do exactly the same. I'll wait on Hilbert's review first though.

I expect the 4070 to have a $700+ msrp and for the good AIB models probably closer to $1000. I wonder how expensive these things have to get before no one buys them anymore? There doesn't seem to be a pricing limit. They might as well just go for it and charge $2000 and up for everything. Gamers don't seem to mind. They just bust out the credit card and YOLO it.

^^^The global energy crisis might hit these card sale big time because the cost of electricity has now reached a level that your average crypto miner no longer makes a profit, and secondly your average gamers will also be hit by soaring electricity bills, hence putting them off touching these cards, and by the time these 40xx come out electricity bills are expected to be 30% plus higher.......so it's going to be interesting to see how well they sell in such a volatile market.
