Thanks guys. Adjusted the curves a little to add contrast (shot in raw and that's usually one of the steps I always do since there's no post processing done compared to when shooting in jpeg). Other than that just resized and sharpened back up a bit. The light was really superb that day, only lasted a few minutes tho, it was before a heavy storm.

Sorry, that was a bit misleading... Right, I took the shot in .raw but had it saved on my PC as a jpeg (still have the original raw on a dvd somewhere). I edited the curves on the jpeg version of the photo coz I couldn't be arsed to search for the raw.

Editing raw gives you better results if you're doing some drastic pp. If you get the photo right in the first place, a bit of adjustment isn't noticable, raw or jpeg. But pushing a photo a couple of steps in raw will result in much better results than in jpeg. I always shoot in jpeg.

I had a D40, I bought a Canon 40D since. That one was taken with the D40 stock lens.

As you can see from the exif, I was still learning. I should've settled for F11 or so instead of F22 I think which would give me faster shutter speed (to capture the front of the picture still), I would then probably be able to use ISO 100 as well. Oh well, we all make silly mistakes, this place is a 5 minutes drive from where I live so I'll revisit it next summer.

Yeah, there's quite a few of them. Plus it's a messy photo with no focal point.

I'm not an enthusiast, and I hardly take 30 pictures a year, so go easy on me...

    My new toy...

Comes with 3 variable power flash head (including modelling lights), coloured gels, 2 size honeycombs, a snoot, barndoors, 2 softboxes, 3 tripods and a remote trigger to put onto my Canon 400d which will fire them all at once. It all comes in a kit bag, and for £200 is cheaper than a dedicated flash.
Cant wait to try it out.
I will post photos after i have given it a go. It will probably just be the dog, or even just his toys, but you have to start somewhere.

Man, that's sweet for £200, where did you get it from? My flash itself was more than that!!!

These are 180w (each) where the Bowens starter set (gemini esprit 200) are 200w, and are over twice the price for less equipment (only 2 heads).
Ok, the Bowens will more than likely be better quality, but for the use i am gonna give these, they will be fine.
I have tried one of them with the softbox in my very dark living room, and it works great.
If your thinking about buying a set, then email them (directed to Neil), and ask him for the radio trigger, as its not normally included (sold seperately for £15), and he should give it FOC, (he did for me).
