Love this one mate, whereabouts in Dorset did you go? I live here but don't recognise any of the coast from your shots :)

Thanks bball :) I'm not really doing much portraits, that was just a group session.

Cheers Doug, that shot was taken at peveril point in Swanage. You're lucky to live in such a nice place!

What is a good beginner DSLR camera to start with? Oh and as for the lens make it an all purpose one. (if possibe?)

I did take pictures following the rules of thirds but I still prefer this one.

All depends on what you want to spend. the Sony A290 is about the cheapest out there but don't be put off it for a starters camera, its more than ample to take a picture as good as a £2,000 camera.
Comes with a 18-55mm lens which is a all rounder,
If you want to buy new lens it all depends on what you want takes your fancy ie you into macro or wildlife? theres different lens to get but the 18-55 will do for starters.

I would say Canon Rebel T2i or Nikon D3100 with stock kit lens 18-55mm lens. Learn how to use the camera with the stock lens then decide on the upgrade.

*Or go with Dual Core's suggestion of the Sony A290 which is pretty cheap. I'm still on my training body, which is a refurbished Nikon D40X.

I for one think you would have gotten a better result if you got lower and closer to the rocks...

I was close to the rocks actually. guess it looks a lot further than it is because its an UWA and the rocks aren't big. If I get very close, water splashes on the gnd, the shot is ruined and the light is gone.

Oh and if I walk further into the sea (from where those rocks start) the sand sinks very quickly so it's impossible with a tripod.
