Some Fifa 12 moments. The game feels so natural in motion.

The only thing that Fifa needs in terms of graphics is cloth and 3d grass.

This picture sums up the game beautifully, such amazing art style.

There aren't many games I would call art but this definitely is.

I used to take all my shots in JPG to save space but the PNG really looks that much better.

I do believe PNG's are not allowed on this thread my friend.

I didn't realise that. But my 1 PNG picture is likely smaller in size than posts with several JPG pictures as others have done.

Also if you look at the total number of pictures I have posted in this thread it is significantly less in total file size than just about everyone else who regularly post large numbers of pictures.

So I don't see the problem.

I downloaded one of the Fifa shots above which are JPG and it was 461kb.

There are 6 of them, assuming they are the same file size on average that is 2.7mb.

My picture was 3mb. Move on.

No need to get mad brua.

Your moderator Jnr. badge and Guru3D capgun will be in the mail this afternoon.

Keep on policing those internets...even if you can't grasp the double standard of your bandwidth complaint when my post is no larger than any other.

It's 1 picture champ. Life goes on.

A JPG at say 90 - 100% quality (Paint .Net being what I use.) should be around 400 - 600 KB depending on screen resolution (Amount of pixels I mean.) and outside of a direct comparison I don't think it would be noticeable when compared against a PNG image though I am on a fiber connection here so to me it matters little though then again I use thumbnails for convenience (Small size and really easy to manage.) though I guess that might bother a lot of people to click the image a few times to see the full version. :p

Of course there will be compression artifacts but outside of direct comparisons I don't think most people would notice and again to me it matters little but I know there's been a lot of discussions about it. :)
(Default paint or FRAPS do compress the image fairly heavily compared to programs like Gimp or Paint.Net that allows you to set quality yourself also and those really show a degradation for finer details and colors both of which titles like Mirrors Edge relies heavily upon for atmosphere and style.)

EDIT: Still no images to post it seems, maybe I'll take a few from the recently released King Arthur game.
(Stand-alone expansion pack bridging the story for the sequel coming next year.)

Use png's when it makes sense. I sometimes use png's here.

    Example:
.jpg 261 KB. Progressive jpg, no chroma subsampling (which instantly kills the quality if enabled), highest quality available in XnView.

.png 379 KB. Compression level 9.

Both are far below the recommended picture size, so of course I will pick the png. Lossless is always better. Even at highest quality, there are visible issues with jpg pictures (chroma subsampling makes things even worse). Banding occurs and dark detail is lost. Paint.net uses chroma subsampling and the jpg encoder (what ever it uses) sucks balls. Results look like crap.

    Chroma subsampling jpg example:

XnView, highest quality and no chroma subsampling.

Paint.NET, highest quality with unknown chroma subsampling (looks like YCbCr 2x2,1x1,1x1 to me).

As you can see, chroma subsampling kills the quality. It makes the colours look dull and especially red colours suffer, a lot.

People shouldn't fear png's. Sometimes png's can be actually smaller than jpg's. Use them wisely. Also, for the sake of humanity, do not use chroma subsampling!

As a side note, I hate thumbnails. They are too small to see **** and who bothers to actually click them?

That's interesting info, shouldn't be too hard to use a third party plugin if it's indeed that bad.
(And there's other formats that are supported.)

EDIT: Seems it's usually a very minor issue though you can still see a difference, no easy way to disable it outside of other programs either but again it's a very minor issue as I see it.
