I didn't say all games are cpu bound at 1080p.im saying the ones he cited the benchmarks for are, I'd think that's obvious : (

    I cant find info.
Anyone knows whats the highest stable OC for the 1080 F.E.?
I've read somewhere 2088 MHz. Is that true?

Golden samples can probably achieve that speed but will not be able to sustain it for more than 10-30 minutes due to power limitations and thermal problems as numerous reviewers have reported.

I think 2k GHz is a more realistic number and even then it might throttle down after a while to 1950s or something like that.

So 2050 MHz sustained its a good value?
I think it has relation with TDP more that with temps.

I also believe that OC apps and benchmarks are quite broken right now.
We might see an improvement soon.

I read the same too. That is with 8+2 Phases?

"All cards are locked to 1.25V maximum, and when the voltage gets close this value, card become unstable. Neither bypassing VRM controller nor removing TDP limit has made any difference. However once LN2 is in action, the clock frequency can go up to 2400 MHz."

    Interesting none the less.

So, if I get a GTX 1080 would that mean that I'm a billionaire? :D

who knows? almost every user from this forum got a over-clocked cpu. i'm using intel stock cooler & rare brand from leadtek.

millionaire is damn rich & billionaire is f-ing rich.

Well, when working 2 jobs and have no social life(atm) you tend to save up a few bucks.

Which in turn enables to indulge your self in impractical/unreasonable buys/upgrades. :p

Its not that hard to make money usually. E.g just recently bough 2 Samsung S7 EDGE's and 1 Samsung S6 EDGE for a quite below street price and sold all for a profit of 360euros.

    So I need another ~400euros for a GTX 1080. Anyone's gonna help out a poor sod? ;)

P.S: I would take it many if not most here we are the kind who can't justify spending $20-40 bucks on clothes but spends $600-700 without second thought on a GPU.

E.g My car needs new tires. Total: $200. Nuh I can get a bit more out of them. The tire threads are barely sticking out. Its cool.
New GPU comes out or a new "upgrade" is available. Total $500. Checkout please.

    Go figure. :D

I already went 4K and it looks like the 1080 is the clear choice. I'm thinking the FTW card will do nicely. I already liked it but the RGB lighting scheme they're using sold me.

    You have a 980Ti @ 1580mhz ? You want to upgrade to a 1080 ? You're talking 15-20% improvement and that's being very optimistic (oc vs oc)

That's max OC@benching. My actual gaming clocks are ~1550MHz and the reasoning behind this decision is that I'm actually helping my brother-in-law.

I won't sell this gpu because of sentimental value so I will give it to him and it would be a nice upgrade over his GTX 970.

I will sell his GTX 970+some extra cash from him and put the extra amount required for the GTX 1080.

Besides the 980Ti going to him, which I have already decided upon it, I still haven't decided if I would wait for the 1080Ti or get the GTX 1080 when prices calm/come down a bit if they do at all that is.

Its gonna be a lot easier for me to sell the GTX 1080 when GTX 1080Ti arrives than trying to sell 970/980Ti.

There're many other small factors to consider but for the most part, that's my reasoning behind this.

P.S: Oh and I do want A 2GHz gpu with GDDR5X! I need a new toy to play with! So its a win-win situation! :D

I decided on getting a "cheaper" AIB 1070 as a placeholder until an MSI Lighting 180Ti or some other super fancy AIB of the big Pascal. Might be a route for you as well.

Already sold one of my 970s and will do the same with the second, I just want 1070 to be available at least for preorder here as I don't want to hang with my vram starved 680 for too long lol.

Naah, with your current specs it would mean you're just not old and wise enough yet, but that's okey.
