My replacement GTX 1080 FTW has just been delivered today by UPS. Hopefully this one will be free of the black screen issue but I won't be holding my breath. Since the RMA, my current card seems to have been working fine, even overclocked, and the only thing I've done is switch from the default fan profile (which only turns them on when the GPU goes above 65 C) to a custom one which is obviously on all the time.

My own feeling is that the card isn't being cooled properly by default, because the fan is not on, resulting in the PCB (VRMs and VRAM) getting too hot. This is likely why when the black screen happens the fans ramp up to 100% (actually it sounds louder than 100% as I've tried it on my card and 100% is much quieter than what I hear when the black screen happens).

Maybe this card will overclock better?

i will pick Asus Strix. this time round pascal on EVGA is the worst due to their poor VRM cooling.

IMO the Palit Super Jetstream/Gamerock premium are seriously underrated performers with regards to cooling/noise.

I would personally choose over EVGA/MSI and the 'fancy' ones - I even tried an AMP Extreme and it was a great card but at the expense of noise, in the end there is definitely not much in it for sure but the trade off for me, I feel the Palits are superb

Apologies for blasphemy... but I feel EVGA are overrated

+1 I had both GTX 1070/80 GameRock and JetStream cards. Great cooling and extremely quiet in comparison.

My GameRock playing 1440p heavily modded GTA 5(VSync)@1.062v/2088MHz = ~50'C@90-100% fan speed.

Some games are running almost 40% faster in some areas on the Zotac 1080 Amp Ex compared to the 970 SLI, I love this card.....

My Nvidia GTX 1080 FE came an couple of days ago after waiting for it to come from winning it from the orderof10 contest which was an very long wait. I been enjoying it a lot more then the 2x 970s I used to have prior to selling one of them. I been using DSR 4k which works in most of my games, while few others DSR 2k. Of course its not the same as having an actual 4k monitor, but I am planning to move to an 3k or an 4k monitor next year. As long my current monitor can hold out that long.

I been keeping it on +210 for core and + 500 for memory. I haven't tried to go any higher as I doubt the Blower style cooler would handle any more. I do have very good airflow inside my case, but I don't wanna push it.

    It's getting chilly here! :D

    +1

I "upgraded" from a high clocked 980Ti and even I'm impressed by the performance gains.

I can only imagine about people with 980/970/AMD equivalent and below!

I had a 680. Even jumping up in resolution from 1080P to 3440x1440, my Zotac 1080 tears it up. Reminds of the performance jump my 8800 GTX's gave back in the day.

I don't seem to have much OC head room though, but the card stays at 1936+ most of the time.

    Hi there

In my case on GTX1080 AMP edition I'm getting OOB similar speeds(1936-1955MHz) and regarding the OC,on my what I've tried +125MHz on core and +200MHz is stable in my case

    Hope this helps

    Thanks,Jura

Ok. Finally cave in and got a 1080. Nice boost from 780ti SLI with single 1080.

Not sure should I get another one, as one does float around 70-100 in BF4. Could be cool to have min 90ish in future.

With current GeForce drivers I've high DPC,with Quadro drivers my DPC is in 500 range which is not bad at all, although still higher than on W7

Can someone confirm me that too guys,as that's just is not normal guys

    Thanks,Jura

Im not sure what to do in future, go for 1080TI or grab another 1080. Honestly the only thing i hate about 1080 is 8gigs or ram, 12 would be ideal. 8gb isnt that future proof. In fact not at all. I have most games hover around 7.5gb consumption. Rise of the Tomb Raider on 3440x1440 all on Max was @7.8gb. Bit way too close for my liking.

Yes agree there, but here are guys who still think 8GB is enough for most of works,I still think 12GB is sweet spot

Regarding Ti not sure, hope will come with 12GB

    Hope this helps

    Thanks,Jura

I'll get the 1080Ti, no point in going SLI since it sucks. The amount of VRAM on 1080Ti is rumored to be 12GB.

I've been running 970 SLI and 980Ti SLI so yes, I know what I'm talking about. 970 SLI worked fine but I did notice a decline in "SLI support day one" when new releases hit the shelves. Later I just decided to try single GPU (also for thermal/acoustic reasons) with 980Ti but later wanted to give it another shot and bought a second 980Ti which I struggled with for a couple of months before I gave up and sold it.

Sure, the experience wasn't all bad, for example Frostbite games worked perfectly and gave awesome scaling. But most other games either had poor scaling or no scaling at all. I mean, paying 650€ to go from 75 to 100fps in Witcher 3 isn't really awesome. Nowadays almost no games seem to have a working SLI profile at launch, at least from what I've read.

But guys, you might have the most epic experience ever and really feel that it's worth it. Feel free to recommend it, I was just giving my opinion.
