Quick last post no doubt before either the new book or Season 4 kicks off. Anyway finished the model of the Roci and decided to try an improved version with an alternative colour livery and opted to enlarge the model by 30% the reason being to make the really small difficult details, especially on the drive cones, easier to assemble. So here's the Mk2 The Tachi Yes that is me using a duff drive cone to support the ship. Was looking at some images of the ship and noticed that I had messed up the detailing on the supports tried to strip the detailing apart to redo it and ended up damaging the cone so had to strip the entire thing off and redo it The last image shows the difference in detail. The Roci is on the right the Tachi on the left. Forming the engine supports and the attachments was near impossible with the smaller Roci model. The Tachi model being bigger made the job at least manageable. I guess I'll have to build a larger Roci model now given that it is the hero ship
Trust me, I watched the first 5 episodes and nearly didn't go on. Then it's like everything changes and from being dull and unbarebly boring, it flicks a switch and it begins to draw you in. Before you know it, your onto season 2 it just steps up another level again. It's a complete 360 from what was delivered at the start of season 1. By the end of season 2 you forget about the lameness of the first few episodes, and now you're giving the show 9s and 10s. Stepping into season 3 hoping it lives up to the hype of season 2, you quickly realise this show has become next level. Its up there with the greatest of great syfy. The characters are so different and unique, so as a viewer you find yourself choosing your favourites. From what I've read every1s favourites are different, me personally i love Amos and Detective Miller. Seriously, for your own good push thru the whole of season 1, if you find yourself starting to enjoy it, it only gets better an better.
Amos and Drummer... not sure if the show will ever give us his back story. The books didn't, at least not in the main books although we did get a short story that told us about his background and the TV show has dropped a hint here and there, even naming an episode called 'The Churn'. Drummer well where to start on her, she's a combination of two characters from the books and in season three she takes on the role of a third character from the books and yes Season 3 DOES live up expectations.
I'm somewhat annoyed the book is a bit delayed this year. Looking forward to what amazon will be able to do with a serious cash infusion. The special effects kind of declined in the last season, but the story, acting, etc was great. It is, however, very confusing to switch between the books and the show because they have diverged and the show skips things, so I can't always remember if something came up only in the books or also the show.
Well thought I would show off a bit. Have just finished with this bad boy. The model is a scaled version of the original Roci I posted a while ago only this time I built it correctly, look at the first pics and you'll notice the port and starboard coolers are on the top of the model instead of the bottom. I however decided to add an extra touch I designed from scratch myself. WEAPONS and a custom built wall mount.
I’m just a little shocked Netflix didn’t pick it up considering they were showing it everywhere but the US. The show is already paid for and they were already carrying it all they had to do was keep doing what they were doing. Regardless with the way SE3 was just a huge build up I can’t wait for SE4 no matter where it ended up.
Typical SyFy though, wait until something gets interesting and then pull the plug, and things get very interesting after the rings open, but in the case of The Expanse it makes even less sense given just how highly rated it is amongst the folks that watched it.
Well Amazon scored and Netflix really lost an opportunity they just had to keep doing what they were doing. Hopefully we’ll get the next season in 4K seeing as Prime doesn’t charge extra for it.
I do not like some of the cancellation that have come from Netflix recently. I think that Expanses chances for longevity are better with Amazon than if they had been picked up by Netflix. Per the Expanse showrunner Naren Shankar,. “It’s going to be more awesome. We no longer have the language restrictions. [We can] curse like a sailor. We don’t have the nudity restrictions… and the 4K and HDR will look amazing on Amazon. We’re no longer constrained by a 43-minute box. We can put some air into it, let things breathe a little bit more. So we’re excited to be on Amazon Prime.” (link in post #18).
Why do series have to go on and on and on... Tell your story and move on, do a new series Keep these things short and sweet.
It is telling the story and it still has quite a bit of story to tell, this comment would have been better posted in The Walking Dead topic as that show has fallen foul of repeating storylines and drawn out story telling for no good reason. The fact that The Expanse packed the entire first encounter with ring space and the events on The Behemoth in to 4 episodes, when it could easily have done twice and that it is starting to look like the Illus and Marco Inarus plot lines may get pushed in to a single season when they could easily be two them selves shows that their is no stretching out of story going on here.
Because its nice to continue the story (IF ITS GOOD) and they make a lot of money. Look at Supernatural...for example.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking..I suppouse hidden interests get in the way of good shows these days..make 1 oe 2 seasons, and scrap it all. Ash vs evil suffered the same fare
So I thought I would do a quick bump for this topic, not only because the new season will be out this year but to show off something I've been working on for the last month or so. I love the ship designs from The Expanse, as my posts above show I love them enough that I spent a bit too long building a few versions of the Tachi / Rocinante. The issue though is their aren't any models for the other ships, their are few 3d plastic models but I am not really sold on any of them. Sooooo I opted to try my hand at designing some of the ships myself starting with the MCRN Donnager A quick insight in to the ship for anyone who isn't familar. Anyway I've building a prototype version of the model I designed and with it nearing completion I though I would take this opportunity to do some bold face out and out showing off and get some feedback from fans of the show. and the blender model I created and used to form the paper model. So enough showing off who can't wait for the next season to start?
@The Laughing Ma That looks pretty awesome! Anyone else here who thinks The Expanse is almost like watching Elite: Dangerous footage?
I can point out a thousand flaws with the books and the series, but overall this is one of the best sci-fi shows I've seen, largely because they at least attempt to take a stab at realistic physics. I don't expect the show runners at Sy Fy (I've always loathed the name change, by the way) to have a degree in physics, but come on, guys! Pick more series that deal with space in a realistic way like this show tries to! Of course, the main problem is that they have to speed up all the cgi docking maneuvers, etc. so they can be shown, but not take up the entire show. That's just a time constraint thing. I'm sure if you slowed it all down in a media player or something, it would look totally plausible in most cases. The other main problem is the budget, which rears its tiny head here and there, but they make it work pretty well most of the time. And yes, I thought of Elite Dangerous the first time I watched the show, lol
Well now the show has Amazon money behind it and is not going to be constrained to having to stick to a ridged network TV time slot.
