Okay folks how many people can legit say they have a fleet of Donnager class vessels? I can Context to that statement: I've been designing papercraft models for ships from The Expanse for four years now and though I would try my hand at updating my very first model design, which just so happened to be the MCRN Donnager. The first model is the furthest away one in the first picture with the most recent addition being the closest, the one in the middle was an interim design that didn't quite do what I wanted it too, the size, part ratios and details weren't quite were I wanted them to be. Yes I wanted to go for detail, so yes the model does have 39 PDC turrets After a year and half I can finally move on to building the Pella. Oh and a link to a Youtube video showing the old Blender model vs the more detailed newer version
Feedback folks, if anyone cares. I am busy exporting the parts for The Pella and texturing them up for a test build the issue is I am running in to the usual problem I've had with a few of these models and it's that the refernence images and shots of the ships in the show change depending on lighting and timing. For example This is the Pella docked at Ceres in season 6, as you can see the hull texture is made up of light blue plates with quite a bit of scuffing and dirt with a combination of what are wear and tear patchwork tiles of differing colours. This is a close up of the underside docking bay of The Pella from season 5. You can clearly see the tiles are a dark blue, smooth for the most part and despite it being a close up their appears to be no patchwork or replacement tiles. So I started with a texture set to try and match the first image. The issue is as I progress with the texturing it just isn't working out the way I want it too. So I went back and threw together a texture set that matches the cleaner early version look shown in image 2 My intention is to do a clean version and add in patchwork and dirt that can be turned on or off depending on what the end user wants. All I want is to get a little bit of opinion on which one folks thinks work / looks better
Dude, I have no idea of what feedback to give. I think both textures look good, but I guess the base would be a more basic, clean look? With another one adding a layer of irregularities?
Spent the last two hours working on the season 5 look and I am starting to like the results. The first part of many completely textured with a toggle options for wear and tear panels or clean look.
Looks good. With the space surroundings, scattered light is scarce, so I guess the lighter replacement tiles do not really shine out like that, am I correct?
So the show has been off air now for two years and their has been no real word about any sort of continuation..... but that hasn't stopped me. Utterly obvious showing off to follow. Remember the Cant. Just noticed I never posted any pictures of the finished Pella model. I can if anyone cares enough to see them.
