The Evil Within from Bethesda (Shinji Mikami)

Now after the first official update they changed the engine around to make it Direct 3D. The Downside is the game runs slower than version 1.0 I used to pop over 100fps with "r_swapinterval" set to "0". now I can only reach about 45fps with same settings :'(

You can argue that the fullscreen 60 fps option should have been including since launch, and you'd be right, but I'm still impressed that the developers added them as I never for one second thought they would. The game is just so much better when played fullscreen (well almost in my case since I'm using a 16:10 monitor and the game is 16:9 letterboxed but I can live with that). I still cannot get a constant 60 fps though; the framerate seems to hover between 50 and 60 fps (on Chapter 9).

 

It's odd, but Chapter 3 is the worst performing out of the whole game for me.
Even uncapped the frame rate for Ch3 is around 30 or so. When inside the buildings it goes up to about 45 or higher.
But the second I go back outside it drops to low 30s.

All other chapters.... all the way up to the ending... 45 and higher the entire time.

 

The game was already DX11 before the update.

 

Same, i see dips to 23/24fps as well, managed to capture a 27.7fps shot.



so looks like the dips to the low 20s i was getting in Chapter 2 wasn't a one off

I hope they do a performance patch.

 

I haven't checked yet... but I doubt they've done anything to address the multicore CPU support.
If they put some effort into that it could really help things a lot. And, considering how little the game actually makes use of multi-core CPUs their CPU requirement is even bigger BS.

 

I have no idea why your getting these kind of drops. Your GPU is around 40% faster than mine (more so when overclocked) and your getting worse performance than me?

I have never ever dropped below the 30fps cap the game had, not tested the latest patch yet. Still downloading it.

Glad to see that turning off letterbox actually gives some fix to the FOV as well and doesn't just zoom in.

What drivers are you using? I am on 14.9.2 and have had no performance issues at all.

EDIT:

Hang on a minute... In that screenshot your GPU is running at 73C and its only using 53% GPU... how hot does it run when a game uses 99%?? That too me is far too hot. I know the 290X GPU's are hot cards but those temps for 53% usage is ridiculous.

Also is your card downclocking your memory as its running at 1250MHz as opposed to your 1300MHz stated in your specs?

 

FOV fixes included Flawless Widescreen no longer work on the patched version and the FOV is locked to 65 or whatever stupid crap they made it

 

Is this really truly capped at 30 FPS on PC?

 

So with the unmodded game the fov is crap with the new patch that removes the bars?

 

FOV is actually fine in the new patch with 60fps vsync and letterbox removed.

From those screens it looks far from fine...like 55fov horizontal.

 

The game plays the same.
With the letterbox turned off in the options menu it will start the game and the letterbox will still be in place during cutscenes.
Once the cutscene is over the black bars slowly pull out revealing the full screen image.

 

Got no ideas either, just noticed the temp at only 53% usage, very strange, as my load temps only around 79/80, so god knows why its hitting 73 in this when only under 53% load.

Im on the 14.9 WHQLs, chapter 2 was terrible as well, was down in the low 20s there to for some reason, thought it was a one off, as before there it was fine.

EDIT: I dropped my memory back to 1250 stock, as theres no diff.

Might give the 14.9.2 BETAs a go.

Something is throttling in your system, Rich. That fps is ridicilously low.
