I blame Fraunhofer institute with their mp3 algorithm.

It was cool era - tape. And this apparatus was a dream of every music lover in Soviet Union for a long time.

I still have cd's in my car but with Bluetooth I have no reason to use them anymore.

I literally just bought Fall Out Boy the other day. I buy all my CD's from there to get points!

I still buy CDs. There is something to me about owning the rights to listen to the music I buy. The disc represents that to me, even though with digital copies, I may never open the disc.

I still buy CDs on occasion though from Amazon and it comes with digital copies. Sometimes I even go really classic and buy vinyl. I still like having liner notes and things that, you know, express some thought and background along with the music. I can't imagine going into best buy and buying in person though... that'd be embarrassing! The employee might see I tie my shoes and think I am obsolete.

I still buy CDs b/c I want to own a physical copy of the media in an unadulterated non-compressed format. No biggie though - who shops at Best Buy anyways?

Oh, great, great....except there is no replacement...
The sensation of having the art you bought, in your hand, opposed to trapped inside a volatile, dependant and more often than not, inappropriate device; to grab the art book with your hands, reading the lyrics, not in a eye fatiguing screen, and diving into what the art creator intended to inspire or wake up in you; the knowlege that you have a proper quality representation, or proper format of the original music intended to be used in a proper device; and the sensation of value that is lost when you buy just files instead of something tangible, complete, proper.
And this is if you buy in lossless format. Don't even get me started if you buy lossy or you do streaming...I puke my brain only thinking that!!! Haha.
But hey, what can one expect in an era where massive mediocre opinión is what you get, added to the human need to justify fad, conformity and ego, and thus you get "low kbps OGG and AAC is just fine", "onboard soundcards are enough, dedicated ones are redundant and anachronistic", "small bluetooth speakers sound so good", etc, etc, etc...
But at least for the music itself only, sadly, is not like we cannot still get good quality original formats and quality listening equipment/devices (and of many levels of it and prices).

Still buy cd's and rip them to flac, only way one can get good quality audio on portable devices. Buying digital is not always an option, if you want cd quality at the very least, for the masses nmp3 is more than enough.

Personally I have quite an extensive CD and SACD collection (Yes including a Pioneer Super Audio CD player :D).

Anyway ever since I got Spotify Premium a couple years back, I litterally haven't bought any CD's anymore.. and then I have XITE music on my TV where I can also just randomly view pretty much any music clip out there as well (Not sure how widely this is known/used, in The Netherlands I have it from my provider with the "Mediabox XL").

I do agree with most, that owning a physical disc is more "satisfying" then not -actually- owning the songs you listen too. To me its more the whole thing of grabbing a CD and loading it in the player... it's just rather satisfying somehow, but not something I can't live without lol.

But yeah Vinyl will ironically outlive CD for sure... :p

    Edit;
Actually most of that CD collection is now stored away in boxes in a cupboard.. lol Only have a handful next to my player.

I can't remember the last time I bought a music CD? It has been quite some time though. A lot longer than the last time I used a Floppy disk drive and floppy disks. Which was in 2013-2014ish when I was working with a Server 2003 based Dell power-edge Server.

CDs are purchased on Amazon if DSD versions cannot be found. For the times to just have something playing in the background, Spotify and my Amazon digital library is more than enough. Vinyl may be back in but Reel-to-Reel never left my setup.

Finally some good news. I'm sick and tired of my stack of old CDs. Digitalize all the things!
