    A comparison of view distance 8.6 versus 2.6 :)

EDIT: Having checked it a few times now that wasn't a very good comparison, chromatic aberration makes things blurry or "hazy" / unfocused and the aliasing isn't helping either, well it suffices until someone does a proper one. :D

so in a way they cheated on optimizations in the patch.

by changing what the distance slider sets the number to.

    so not really a optimization.......

Does the new update disable the film grain tweak?

So they though : Not everyone have GTX980 so lets downgrade some options and call it optimization.

    Lovely job Techland.

So pre-v1.2.1 Draw Distance of 100% is now equivalent to 55% with v1.2.1? Well, that sucks as it means that the LOD, when set from the game, will actually be lower than the one I was using a couple of days ago (80%, as set by GeForce Experience, actually).

So they've improved the performance by lowering the game settings?!? :bang:

For the main part. But the CPU fix is in so don't have to manually do that. It pleases the masses mostly since they don't know the changes. They just know they get better FPS now.

Regarding the view distance I would say that they have now made the view distance more realistic compared to other games.
They should have released the game like this and no one would have complained.

Can we push the view distance high in the game files though?

I still got the memory leak, but it only happens for me when I put texture on high... I have my RAM and Pagefile displayed on MSI Afterburner.... and I can't tell which one, but one of them just creeps up to 16gb after short time of gameplay about 15 mins or so... and then I get windows memory error...

if I lower Textures to medium, it stays below 10gb and I can play the game...

also is my mind playing tricks on me, or does that stupid Chromatic Aberration get less noticeable the lower the textures are ??

and guys, we cant do modifications to game now? I saw this on patch notes.

    Patch 1.2.1 release notes
1.2.1 patch notes (Windows & Linux)

    • numerous performance optimizations, both general and configuration-specific, that resolve many performance problems
    • compatibility fixes – related to language and regional system settings
    • fixes a number of crashes in various situations
blocked cheating by changing game’s data files
    • new issue tracking mechanisms (-safemode switch, additional logs, minidumps always, full dumps on request)
    • numerous audio compatibility fixes

So is this game a complete mess right now? I was looking to get something else until they hopefully fix the farcry stuttering. Is this worth buying?

    I'd say so, fun game.

Also, just noticed, the vsync option now caps me to 30fps for some reason.

Well that would be a deal breaker for me. I always play with VSync.

I don't know if it's because my fps is usually just above or at 30fps, but it doesn't go higher even if I look at the sky and vsync off is like 70fps.

    Force it through CCC probably.

I think it's a bug that only really i'm getting.

There's several games that have this triple buffering bug. Change to windowed mode and change it again to fullscreen. Problem fixed.

My Vsync acts up. Think it has something to do with alt tabbing or w/e. When I turn it on it caps me at 120FPS which matches my monitor. Though after awhile and a few alt tabs it then caps at 60FPS. Have to turn it off/on to get it fixed.

From further experimentation with the update and modded files it does appear that you can modify some files that don't give a gameplay advantage, I would guess they've blocked off certain files from loading when extracted.
(So no modifying the skills file to remove durability or lower XP requirements or modifying the AI files but you can edit some of the engine script files to tweak visual effects and a few other things but it's very restrictive.)

Unfortunately that just puts it back to 30fps for me.

I will try restarting the game after my current mission though
