    Hello everyone,
since I got my new GTX 980 ACX 2.0 in September 2014 I keep getting TDR's from time to time in completely different scenarios.

I never saw them with my old GTX 670.

Sometimes I can play for hours without any problems and the other day I see a TDR after playing 5 minutes.

Especially Witcher 3 and GTA V are crashing a lot. (Witcher 3 just crashed today after playing for about 45 minutes, but I also had a crash in CS GO yesterday, which never crashed before in like 200 hours of playing!)

Well, now I'm unsure if my hardware (See below) or the drivers are faulty.
You have to know that these sporadic TDR's have been there before, while and after the whole Chrome crashing driver bug.

I also tested Firestrike 3D Mark (Loop) for an hour without any crashes and also 10 hours of Unigine Heaven didn't show any TDR's which makes it really hard to believe for me that my hardware is faulty...

What I have done so far: (without success)
    - RMA'd the card 3 times
    - Checked memory (No Errors after 12 hours)
    - Checked PSU 12V in BIOS and Windows (12.168V / 12.168V)
    - Installed several drivers
    - Installed reference BIOS (Did that just today, and it turned out Witcher 3 is still crashing)
    - Updated MB BIOS
    - Reinstalled Win 7/8.1 64 Bit multiple times
    - Updated VGA BIOS
    - Temps are fine
    - Tested overall stability (Prime95 FMA3, AIDA64)
    - Disabled SLI and only used one card

And finally this is my current setup:

    Mainboard: Gigabyte X99-UD4
    RAM: Crucial 4x4GB DDR4
GPU: EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 Superclocked in 2x SLI
CPU: Intel i7 5820K (no overclock)
    Audio: Asus Essence STX II
    OS: Win 8.1 64 Bit
    PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750W

I would really appreciate any kind of help :)

Remove the Audio Card and see what happen

That is a really good idea, will try it ASAP!

Audio shouldn't cause a desktop compositing TDR...

Great if you don't like audio.

I see I am not alone. Its not the card, its the drivers... everything since 352.63 is a TDR mess, 352.63 itself was good!

try to run "linx" or "intel burnin test" (high stress) or prim95 for about an hour

The latest nvidia drivers are a bit buggy too, though it always helps to know your overall stability so you can rule out ram / cpu issues

I find 350.12 to be the best so far, however even if i export the Witcher 3 profile by installing any of the new drivers, and then install 350.12 and import the profile i still can't get SLI to work, but it's ok since i play mostly MMOs and overall not gonna use something unstable because of one game.

Funny how people said bad things about AMD drivers, been months since i've seen a decent nVIDIA one. :3eyes:

I agree, both about 350.12 being the most reliable for non-depreciated cards and about Nvidia drivers not being up to their traditional standards lately. There was 1 other time (GTX6x0 era I think?) when there was a similar TDR issue (not to mention the Starcraft2 loading screen burnouts) but other than that I've always relied on Nvidia's superior stability to get work done.

The way things are going lately I might as well be using only Macs with their ancient OpenGL & Nvidia/AMD driver builds and the corresponding lack of constant updates leading to instabilities....

Okay, just got another driver crash in Witcher 3 after removing the sound card.

    Obviously not the reason :(

Prime95 FMA3 Small FFT was running for 10 hours straight already with no errors.

Just ran another 99 runs of the Metro 2033 Redux Benchmark without crash/TDR.

I think it is safe to say this is driver related?

Either go back to the last stable driver or wait for the next WHQL/beta driver to be released. While it it possible the driver could be causing the problem, it's difficult ruling out another app/windows update as the culprit until you verify what the last stable driver is.

I know it sounds silly but what other devices are plugged in? Unplug literally everything from the mobo you don't need including the case front input ports (I've actually seen shorting case USB causing TDR before)

There has never been a "stable" driver for me, because these crashes are so random and occured with every driver. (It just got way worse with 353.06, but that's a different story...)

    Sometimes I don't see a TDR in 2 weeks and then I get 3 in a day...

There are not much external devices plugged in to the computer:

    - USB mouse
    - USB keyboard
    - TV USB receiver (just installed 2 weeks ago, definitely not the problem)
    - Headphones 3,5mm

I unplugged the front panel now, but I really doubt this will help :p

Another brand new i7-5920K user here

I had zero issues with my GTX980 with my 4770K, until I got my 5920K

Chrome, Firefox for the first time ever was causing crashes, so much so I had to disable hardware acceleration.

Fixed and done with, I can't overclock my videocard more than what I had with the 4770K. But I DID have issues

Try to upper your voltages and LLC higher, it will bring your temps higher but for me I needed to up the voltage for almost everything because of the overclock to 4.3
CPU Voltage 1.260 + LLC Ultra High
    VSSA voltage 0.8500
    PLL CPU Voltage 1.8500

If I go lower on one of them or disable LLC I'll get the TDR issues in some play time or other occasions

You guys should never Disable Hardware Acceleration. it just shows there is issue somewhere and you disable the GPU Usage, it's workaround for another issue. I never in my life had an issue with Hardware Acceleration.

I don't overclock and there is no LLC on X99 platforms anymore.

I have had Bad ram/bad ram slots cause tdr in one computer, and yes memtest came back saying ram was fine, ram was faulty none the less along with mobo, though the mobo fault was obvious as only 1 of 4 rams slots worked with 1 stick of ram.

I have all due to realtek audio drivers causing this issue cause which the 2.75 drivers fixed, other wise the driver issue when back to every driver since i built the pc. back in 2009

Audio/audio drivers can cause issue with HW acceleration on the gpu
