DX10 is not a scam. BTW Sl4vik, Carmac is quite clearly criticising Vista, not DX10 at all. Whoever it was that listed those few differences between DX9 & 10, you really have no idea what you're talking about. Remember, its nbot just DirectX, but SM got an upgrade to 4 also How about people do a little reading before making stupid claims eh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTA0NSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shader_Model_4 http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/11/30/directx10_future_of_pc_gaming/1 Now have a little read and come back and say its a scam. Some examples of what can be done: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905008.aspx **sigh**
people people listen up. i am guessing you all think it's a scam based on the Lost Planet demo. was the game even suppoosed to look graphically better on DX10? did they even program the game to take advantage of DX10? even if they did i believe it is very minimal. this game is just a damn port! why on earth do you think you might see improvement(both performance and graphics wise) in this game with DX10? wait for some real DX10 games like crysis and you will notice graphical and performance increases when using DX10. crytek have mentioned that there will be DX10 only graphical features in the game. did the guys tha tmade Lost Planet mentioned anything like that? i doubt it...so why are you even expecting it? the game just supports DX10 but doesn't even use it.
no..let your undertaker dreams rest in peace what do you mean the 8800 can barely hold it? my lowly 320mb can play it fine.. have you read the tech briefs about dx10? anything you can do in dx9 can be done in dx10 but the thing is youd need faster (and probably more expensive) hardware... you judge DX10 by what? a single game (and a port at that) very intelligent
Yeah, the thing is this though,… For a lot of users its not really an issue of whether to “jump” or “not jump”. There is something called an installed base and a lot of users are already in the installed base camp. When the “Lost Planet DX10 Demo” became available those with all the necessary hardware and software were already within the installed base. Those of whom that were missing one or more of the critical components to run the DX10 demo were forced into running only the DX9 version. I upgraded from a DX9 ATI AIW X1900 to an eVGA 8800GTS 320MB video card on a whim for better DX9 performance and I received a FREE OEM upgrade to Vista from a qualifying purchase of XP MCE 2K5 . I also bought a retail version of Vista Home Premium and I’m still running RC2 leavening my two Vista licenses untouched currently,… Bam!!! installed base, all the ducks are in a row and DX10 wasn’t even on my mind when I acquired the components. As long as developers are launching both DX9 and DX10 applications (for example DX9 and DX10 versions of the “Lost Planet demo“) there is no need to jump either way,….but soon enough users wont have a choice! Want to buy a new video card based on a new chip? It will be a DX10 card or nothing! And so on and so forth,.. Dual launching DX9 and DX10 applications / games wont last forever either.
Roflmao DX10 is not a scam. You see screenshots??? I played Lost Planet DX10 and compared it to DX9 Lost Planet. DX9 lost planet is comparable to the 360 version. The DX10 was much better...details motion blur everything was higher quality. If you think its a scam then dont bother upgrading. Hey i thought DX9 still had life in it also...but ill admit DX10 looks muuuuch better.
You know what all this Vista and DX10 stuff boils down to is, I think people were/are expecting more out of them than we are getting. Vista was supposed to be a brave new world and it ended up being a pile of $hit. DX10 was supposed to bring bigger and better graphics and they are slow to come. Microsoft made a bunch of promises that they are not keeping, they scewed around with Vista for 6 years and what do they have to show for it, a broken hard to write for OS. Now, I'm not bashing Vista or DX10, I am bashing Microsoft for not giving us the goods that they should have by now. Instead we all are still waiting for proper drivers and apps that should have been here by now. Hell, they can't even deliver Halo 2 on time, Microsoft has seriously dropped the ball.
Why not. They've wasted the last 22 years on one. It's called Windows. What truly makes DX10 a scam is that it's Vista only. Lost Planet doesn't even look good for a DX9 game IMO, based on the screenshots I've seen so far. DX9 games will still be available for a while yet thanks to the Xbox 360. A lot of PC games are now being ported from the 360.
I don't see the point of a stupid thread like this, how can we call DX10 when it has not even been proved yet? Sorry but you cannot say a Ferrari is bad when you have not tried it for yourself. The Lost planet demo was basically testing a honda engine in a Ferrari, it was a **** port and does not represent what DX10 is truely capable. We should wait until further games are developed for DX10 and not an Xbox port.
Based on the benchmarks i've seen at Lost planet and COJ, the 8800 can barely play the game at 1280^1024, especially when we talking on all eye candy however, the issue most be realted to the game since the DX10 must be faster more detail and eye candy can be pushed in and get same performance like DX9, which we haven't seen yet.oh and btw UNDERTAKER WILL NOT RIP.
well it was a issue with windows live and xbox 360 live and halo 2 had also issue with the installing on 64 bit from what the rumor say. that why they change the date. and oh yeah someone at gamespot forum said that it seem that capcom found out about the shadow issue and widescreen issue and also multicore does not work when u add it in the menu. capcom said that they will fix these issue in the following week before they ship the game.
If a kid takes his first step at 2 yrs old I'm afraid he has a physical disability and there is the chance he/she may never walk.
360 also has hardware tessellation(10 polys = 20 polys). The memexport thingamadoodad is basically a half step towards a geometry shader so I would say xenos is as close as you can possibly get to dx10 without actually being dx10. I don't think the shader model version has ever been disclosed but it's probably sm3.5 or whatever. *EDIT How do you put multiple quotes into one post? I don't like taking up three posts in a row.
For me DX10 might improve the quality of the games on how they play overall but what really bothers me is that Microsoft is forcing people to upgrade to Vista. Also what other things that Microsoft is trying to do here to most of the users who are oblivious here is that they are slowly decreasing the OPENGL support in their windows versions so they can push their own ****ty DX library. I am sorry but Microsoft is simply trying to push their technology and name it as the absolute best without alternatives which is really not true since most of these "new technologies" are created by the people from the Open Source community AKA Linux (for those oblivious here) and rename them and market them as their own. Also OpenGL has been proven that it is more capable than DX10 by John Carmack and this is fairly a big deal since he is one of the most respected developers in the world. Honestly this is the last time i will post in such a thread......this is utterly pointless to discuss since most of the users here are simply blinded by Microsoft marketing strategy and praise them for what they create and what really bothers me is that they do not realize it. There is a certain quote that probably most people fail to notice here and simply go by it.... "Ignorance is Bliss"
dude for one halo is probably the most popular fps out there so if so many people play it why would it "suck balls" that might be some peoples personal opinion. and for dx10 have you even seen dx10 games such as crysis, alan wake, or ut3 but im sorry those graphics blow dx9 games out of the water.
I am not going to make judgements on DX10 since I have never played a game on it (screenshots DO NOT show full potential). DX10 isn't all about "omg look at those graphics!", it also has A LOT to do with running the game smoother (more stable + more FPS). From what I understand, if you were to program something in DX10, and program the exact same thing in DX9, you would need much faster hardware to run the same graphics in DX9. Now, currently this might not be true, but then again, DX10 has been out for how long? I am sure all the drivers for vista are not 100% yet (which is why I will not be upgrading till next fall). I doubt they would spend years developing DX10 and not have it be an improvement over DX9. Let them work all the kinks out and I am sure DX10 will be badass.
dx10 could have been on xp, and if it was on xp, would people be shatting all over it?... I think not. The truth is that the graphical effects you are seeing or are going to see from dx10 can all be done on dx9. Of course with your framerate chopped to hell. Dx10 is all about removing bottlenecks or rather increasing efficiency in the way the software is ran by the hardware. That's not saying there isn't new things to see like displacement, morphing, tesselation, and instancing(these aren't really graphical features). I think once people see a fully developed dx10 game that uses those things I just mentioned + 64-bit hdr/AA/motion blur(basiacally shader/post processing out the a$$) they will change their tune. dx9 has it's limits which honestly haven't been reached just yet but I have no problem moving on before we get there. It's just too bad we are being cornered into a drm infested wall just to get this benefit. uke3:
I really dont see the big deal of vista its completely fine. big deal xp doesnt have dx10 sure it could of been on xp but as new things develop such as new a os for example when windows 98 or whatever was the great thing xp rolled out and sure xp had its problems just as vista does. xp has been out for how many years now? 6 years or so and vista has only been out for less than 6 months. What we're seeing now of dx10 is the beginning of what it's capabilities are. Also i do agree that screen shots of dx10 games dont show the full potential but holy cow they impressed me and many others.
