Supposedly GeForce RTX 3080 12GB production has resumed because to an abundance of GA102.

If this is true, then Nvidia should do an huge sale on those cards, but nothing so far...

I think this is bad news. Means they will postpone sales of 40 gen until they sell off those 3080s. Even though it's probably close to a 4060 or 4050Ti.

    I'll take one for €500.

It's not like Nvidia suddenly found a load of GA102s down the back of the sofa. This means something has changed in Nvidia's plans.

Were these GPUs destined to be 3090s but the death of mining means they haven't been able to sell them as 3090s?

A quick check in stores shows that there are already plenty of 12GB 3080s available. If Nvidia is planning on pumping a lot more out, it probably means that we wont see the 4070 or 4080 this year.

    I'd rather take 4070 for 500$.

    Just sayin...
It was not that long ago.

450 would be more in line with inflation numbers, 500 is already pushing it for a x70 class

All nv prices have been creeping up since Maxwell, and then they are surprised pikachu that sales are way down.

I'd be interested if they had an actual, legitimately good sale. Like back to the 9/10 series sale pricing and away from the 20/30 series hyper-gouging.

I used to feel compelled to buy GPUs about every 2 years, now it takes about 5 years for me to blow money on one. Force my hand, nvidia.

I agree. I'd also not be surprised if nvidia try to push even higher prices with next generation. Sadly 499$ for 4070 is highly optimistic.

It will be more like :
    x70 = 599$
    x60ti = 499$

    LOL, NO - Nvidia.

    Embrace for the 1000 dolars 4080 and 750USD 4070.

People have been waiting for 2 years for "muh lower prices" and after the crypto pseudo-crash prices are still insane in some parts and still, naive fanboys expect from an absolute greedy company to lower prices, yeah not happening, they rather delay further, create fake scarcities, reduce production and lots of other BS to maintain high prices than selling their stuff for cheap.

2025 cannot get any faster and just to find another "once in a lifetime" event that screws us all.

Good luck to them competing with 900 TH worth of ex-mining GPUs flooding the 2nd hand markets everywhere when ETH switches to PoS

    upload_2022-8-16_12-44-0.png

For reference, since approximately the day Pascal launched.
Also, remember, there WAS mining before this boom, but nowhere at this scale, the difference is simply staggering.

Next interesting value, the TH about when current gen launched
    upload_2022-8-16_12-45-56.png

Most of the difference from 250 TH to 900 TH is Ampere+RDNA2

Just imagine when most of it all shuts off... wait, you can't imagine, it's just too much to imagine.

    ---
To give a sense of scale:

"NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 can generate more than 45.49 USD monthly income with a 53.75 MH/s hashrate on the ETH - Ethash (Phoenix) algorithm" ( link )

Now divide 900 TH still in operation to 54 MH ...

    That's 16 MILLION 3070-class GPUs folks !
The reality is that a lot more lower class GPUs like 3060/3060Ti, RX 6600 etc are also still mining, so the average hash power is probably lower than that of a 3070.

If I were to throw a number in the wind, I think there are still 30 million GPUs of various ages and types that are still mining TODAY.

True, but all i need is 3070 performance, so most likely a 4060 for me.

MSRP doesn't mean a thing for us here in Europe.
I paid €700 for my 1070 when I bought it , and now that life in general has become more expensive I can add another 15-20% to that.

Things are not looking good at all.

when you can actually buy products because 99% of them don't go straight from the factories to miners : regular customers who made what you are can wait
when you leaked, announced products 60-80% better for slightly more power : regular customers who made what you are can wait
if you want to now sell over-produced soon to be obsolete hardware because your "never existed" mining customers vanished : regular customers who made what you are will wait

you can forget your 1000+ cards Nvidia have you read internet comments ? 99.99% of people want 400-500$ products 700$ at worst

quick list of actual 2022 08 16 prices in my country
3080/ti 892-1246€ (prices are stupid some ti are cheaper than 10gb LHR)
    3090/ti 1349€-2264€ (same thing LOL)

who is going to pay a 10gb 3080 for more money than a 12gb ti ? both still way above msrp price ? nobody
who is going to pay a regular 3090 rather than a ti for more money ? nobody
my own 3090 I would never have bought if miners weren't getting all of them at the time, no one buys a KFA/Galax when you can have an asus or msi for the same price or less

they also wanted to lie with fake MSRP they never intended to sell cards at, a point highlighted by Linus in his 3070 review (kinda like car manufacturers who sold 20 sportscars only to make them legal to race) now it's coming to bite them in the rear

at a time when France country was delivered 3-5 cards rtx cards A MONTH....I saw a local ad of someone selling 80 of the same GPU model with pictures of the boxes and the optional mining rack for them, he didn't get them with bots on ebay or whatever they were wrapped on a freaking transport pallet

in switzerlandf we didn't see one 3080 at retailers before two entire years

THIS THIS THIS!!!!!!!!!! It's ETH POS on Sept 19th? If so, the GPU used market is about to see something never seen before. Imagine just half of those 30 Million GPUs suddenly hitting the market.
Spending money on nearly any gpu at any price rn is foolish.

I just don't think you should be paying anything close to MSRP for 2 year old technology. I'm still debating with myself if I even care enough about gaming anymore to get something like a 4060/70 in the future.

Miners will switch to other algos, especially the big ones. Only people with one, or a few cards will eventually shut down, and not even all of them. So don't get your hopes up.

What newly produced graphics cards mean is just that: AIBs need to sell more cards to clear the GPU stocks.
Makes me wonder if in the end, GPUs were abundant during the supply crisis, but AIBs were lacking in their grasp on boards rather than AMD's or Nvidia's fault as GPU only suppliers.
Which in term would mean, AIBs are to blame for both the inflated prices due to undersupply (when they simply did not produce enough graphics cards for w/e reason), and also, AIBs are to blame for now flooding the market with even more cards which at this point nobody needs or wants, only to delay the cards people want to get their hands on even further.

To me it looks like the blame should be directed at Asus, MSI, etc., not AMD / Nvidia, since again, they are out of the deal as soon as they sell their GPU chips. The rest is the AIBs' sphere of influence.
