I've been wanting to get into a online rpg for some time but witch one I dont follow any of the games out right now ecxept final fantasy is it any good I saw ff11 with 2 expantions at my game store for a good price and what would be a good speed for gaming I'm on 32kbs at the moment will that be fast enof if I liked all the finalfantasy's will I like online
I am a mmorpg vetran having played almost everything out there for at least a little while. There are three things to consider when playing an mmorpg. 1. By far the most important thing is friends. Other ppl make the game much more then the game itself. Either play with some RL friends or make some in-game aquantices that play at the same time and you group with reguarly. Makes it much more fun. 2. content. Ya, gotta have something to do. 3. least important is gameplay/eye candy. Really. Trust me on this. I still play EQ1 for one main reason: content. There is no game that can come close to the sheer amount of stuff to do as EQ1. Mabye UO, there have been a couple expantions since I left it. City of Heros right now suffers from a severe lack of content for high-level players. WoW and EQ2 are starting to run into the same issue. The other reason I still play EQ1 is the people. I am guilded with the same ppl for the last 3 years and I see no reason to try and make new friends. When you get right down to it though, all mmorpg's are the same. You kill stuff for experience points and level up. (UO is the exception, it is strictly skill based). EQ, EQ2, WoW, MxO, CoH, AC2 all the exact same at the base level. That is why after so many years and games I find no compelling reason to change games. I just played MxO in the open beta and omg that game was a yawner..same old, same old mmo formula. Really nothing new at all. Friend: "you should come play (random mmorpg here) its awesome" me:"why what do you do in game" Friend: "kill stuff and level up, do quests, make items!" me: ... WoW in general is the most popular mmorpg currently. i was very addicted to WoW but i had to cancel due to financials. :cry: ff11 is not that good from what i've read, it's one of those games where you feel like your doing work instead of fun and the game forces you to form into groups to complete most of the quests. be on the look out for square enix's next mmorpg. it looks very cool, looks like anime. Well, my favourite MMORPG is actually Ragnarok Online. I know you like anime, so you may enjoy the game. There is actually an anime available via fansub based on the game. The client is free to download, and you get your first two weeks for free. It's fairly cheap per month after that. Definately worth a try considering it wont cost you anything. I've played a bunch of others, but I can never seem to get into them the way I did Ragnarok Online. I really should start playing it again! I used to play on the Sakray server, had some good times.

I own FFXI and i must say its kinda borig.. takes ages to lvl and to lvl you need to kill the same monsters over and over again.. The quest are quite hard to complete. Atm i play WoW and i must say its the best mmorpg i played in a while. And i have played lots.. even since the 28kps time. So if you wanna try a good mmorpg then try out WoW. Its great
i like Guild Wars, and the best part about it is, no monthly fees! You also have to have skill, you cant just be high leveled and own anyone, theres planning, and its cool, you can have guilds and go into huge guild wars, or just randomly pair up with people at the gladiator, the quest are challenging, but once u learn the basics it is quite fun, it comes out Apr.27 and the next beta is apr.15 only for pre-orderers
If you want one that's more of a grind (just killing monsters constantly) and more 'realistic' graphics, go with EQ/EQ2, but if you're just starting out, want one that's more quest oriented, more "fictional" looking and a little less of a grind, i'd say go with WoW. currently i can't put down WoW, so it gets my vote for sure. Currently have a lvl 45 human warlock on Elune.
idd deffo have to say wow, but saying that its the only mmorpg ive ever played ive never been able to get into those types of games before but this is totaly adictive. I used to play cs/s full time now all i play is wow cant leave it alone.
I've played anarchy online, and i still play everquest 2, Anarchy online was more fun in the sense i had more stuff to do, more places to go. But im leeching off my brothers EQ2 account so its free for me. ^_^ And cant beat free.. well unless he paid me to play. Anarchy online is fun once you get use to it. But theres so many mmo's out there right now. its pretty much a coin flip.

I've played many of the popular MMORPGs, some of them for years. EQ1, EQ2, DAOC, AC1, AC2, WOW, UO, and an old classic that nobody but me seems to know about called Kingdom of Drakkar, which I played for about 3 years. Its appalling to think of how much time I've "wasted" at this. Then again, I don't waste time watching TV so I'm probably about even with other people. Right now I like AC2 best of all (Asheron's Call 2). But it doesn't run well unless you have a pretty powerful machine (fast cpu, 3D video card, and a lot of memory) and a cable or DSL internet connection. CPU and memory matter more than the video card, just so long as the video card supports directx9.0c. One difference between them is how well suited they are to the number of hours you have to play. Most of them (including AC2) are best if you can spend a long time in each playing session -- like at least an hour. The experience gets better after a longer time so 2 hours is usually better than one. That's because most of the cool stuff to do needs more than one person and it takes a while to hook up with others who want to do the same thing. That's my biggest problem -- I often have only one hour for a playing session and that is a serious limitation. But EQ2 (Everquest 2) is better geared to shorter playing sessions and I do play that sometimes. But EQ2's graphics are not as good and the game play is less engrossing than AC2. Also, the world seems more artificial. But fundamentally they are very similar. If you like one you'll like the other and vice versa. At a technical level, my guess is that EQ2 will run better if you don't have a fast computer.
Ive started playing Ragnarok Online It looks good and is quite fun but it runs verry slow on my connection 32kbs and if some thing like that runs slow then I think others will be even worse I think I'll have to wate till I get a faster connection
32kbs should be more than fast enough for mmorpg. you should be able to run those games fine on a 56k connection.
The first thing you'll notice about MMORPG's after coming straight from single player RPG's is that it's HARD. In RPG's, a monster that's twice as hard gives atleast twice the EXP. In MMORPG's, a monter that's twice as hard only gives you x1.5 the EXP at most. But like SorienOR said. You'll need friends. Find other players you can regularly play with and you'll find that the difficulty is just right. One of the best aspects of MMORPG's that no other game type has is the community. A server with a couple of thousand players at a time is enough to create their own economy. You can see the laws of Supply And Demand at work. Item value fluctuates depending on the trends. Politics and backstabbing among the popular guilds. Scammers, thieves and con artists abound. It does get interesting. I would first recommend that you subscribe to one of the free betas out there and check it out yourself. I've been playing Ragnarok Online for 2 years now =) No lag on my 56k. Connections is okay too on the other MMORPG i've started recently. R.O.S.E. It kinda pushes the hardware pretty hard but it looks decent and it's still beta (beta==free!) http://www.roseon.com
I've just started playing Ro again on Sakray. Oh how I missed this game... I've been away too long! =p. Working on a Vit Knight right now. Probably start on a dagger sin once I get him to a decent level.
