So i bought 860 evo 1TB to replace my 7 year old Barracuda drive. I now i have done this swap before but windows always had issue with the swaps some shortcuts which point to D: (drive) would work while other would not.

even if the original drive which labels D: is ghosted to new drive with, then old drive was disconnected and I set the new drive to same drive letter, I would have issue where some programs just dont work even though it same drive later.

Every time I ever did this swap I had this issue, and I not sure why maybe I just doing it wrong order?

I usual just pluged new drive in threw a HDD dock,
    1. Initialized the drive formated assign a temp drive letter
    2. Copy contents from old drive to new drive.
    3. shut down pc and remove old drive
    4. start pc and change new drive letter to same letter assign to original drive that isnt connected anymore

and some programs will work other will not even though drive letter is the same.

any thoughts? as to why windows wont seen some program short cuts and some it does?.

And Seeing as I have also had all my temp folders assigned to the HDD all these years both drive will be come SSD should leave temps on the new 860 evo? or should just put them back to OS drive?

    my 830 128gb is at 96% life and 8.5tb lifetime writes and 1053 days on ( usual 6 ~10 hours a day)

use a clone tool compatible with resizing instead so you retain the partition GUID

some shortcuts are made based on the partition guid rather than the drive letter.

copying drive to drive may require purging the mounteddevices registry keys to correct letter bindings to guids.

well I usual just copy the Folders I need moved to drives then just pull the old drive out. so in theory the "mount /r" I assumng ran in CMD will fix the issue of some stuff from launching on the new drive even though it same drive letter?

I was gona use Samsung clone tool to do this, too, it just I dont want the hidden lock files on HDD copied over to the SSD seeing I Think the $LogFile , $Bitmap on the HDD are part of the partition and the files is scattered about the drive instead of continuous so definitily dont want them copied over

    I just want
    My Documents
    My User Profiles
    Downloadz
    Games
    Software

and everything inside the folders on the new drive and all those folders except the downloadz folder have shortcuts linking to said folders

Only other folders I have on the HDD is hidden temp directory, which used to keep temp directorys use by windows off my 830 SSD

well after 3 hours of copying I transfer everything over to the SSD and all seem to be working gona find out in coming days

As now AS SSD says the drive is work like it should speed wise I 540/520 speed on the 860 evo, I tried Deus EX MD which had crazy long load times I think it cut it load time in have not really sure, it been months since i played it, I do notice the lack of noise, cause my hdd was clicker. When even lunched Firefox or Thunderbird I always heard my HDD loading now all quiet other then fans
