Stock i7 cooler on i5 mobo?

    itll fit. it's the same cooler regardless if its an i5 or i7

    Wrong, if he thinks about seling his Core i7-930 Intel BOX cooler for LGA1366 socket to someone who will use it on some LGA1155 motherboard like MSI H61M-P25 (B3) answer is: No, it will not fit! I'm 100% sure.

    Some aftermarket CPU coolers have brackets so you can mount them on all sorts of CPU sockets: 775, 1366, 1156, 1155, 1150.... but you can't do that with Intel BOX cooler for LGA 1366 and fit it on LGA 1155 without some kind of modification.

    It's socket specific (i3/i5/i7) rather than CPU specific, though some of the higher TDP coolers used to come with thicker coolers to support the increased heat.

    Yep, Nehalem i7 coolers are different than i5 Lynnfield. But i5/i7 SB and IB are interchangeable.
