Valve has released the beta client for Steam for Linux. Team Fortress 2 comes included with the client download (it is free-to-play after all), but if you want to play some other games, you'll be pleased to know that there are a total of 26 Linux games now available on Steam. Most of these titles are indie games, but there is one full-fledged retail game Serious Sam 3: BFE - that sticks out from the bunch.

AMD already have pretty decent Linux drivers, and also they work much more closely with Linux developers than Nvidia...

    so AMD sucks why??

Maybe for desktop, but laptop... No, not really.

The last five distros I tried had extremely lackluster driver support regarding AMD. So as you can see my opinion isn't just subjective, it's fact. Many users will tell you the same thing.

I agree, coming from an nvidia laptop to an amd one, the driver options and support is pretty lacking.

At least enduro works better now.

Great news. Hoping more developers start supporting Linux soon. A free and open source OS is what the PC community needs, shame it's taken so long.

Agreed with Ghosty. If the same amount games were available on Linux like on Windows, guess what gamers would've choose...

    Wow that's crazy.
At first I thought it's some kind of a joke. I mean I knew they were fooling around with Linux Steam, L4D2 and TF2, but I didn't expect it so fast.

Props to Gaben. And Nvidia 2!

Gave ubuntu 12.10 a go, easy to install anyway, and only takes 5gb.

But trying to access my root drive where I store all my games and music and what not? No idea.

fock this sh!t up..Ubuntu 12.10 is buggy as hell, GRUB2 has a lot of graphical errors, no runlevels and many other issues...gonna wait until this matures..

Any benchmarks yet, if theres no performance boost then i really dont see the point in it. Dont have as much free time as i use too so not interested in having to cmdline everything.

Though maybe if valve made a stable version of linux that was just as user friendly as windows, then maybe.

Maybe if this turns out to grow, Linux will be made more user friendly, at least Ubuntu. But i will love support for other Linux OS's not only Ubuntu.

So only 1% of all PC gamers know about Linux? Looking at a couple of forums says otherwise.

Yep, its like going back 20 years in time for this decision.

It would need quite a boost to get to windows level of gaming.

Need to use Ubuntu 12.04 or higher BetA, the only distro that Steam supports. For now at least.
