    Okay Gurus,

I just recently purchased an 8800GTS 320MB SC and I am very happy with the performance. It plays all current games at max with my system specs.

I am debating rather or not I should keep this card or return it and wait a couple months for the new 9 series cards to come out, because everyone claims they will be 100% faster than the 8 series.

If there is going to be this much of an increase then I am very close to returning it and waiting, I just want some other people's opinions on the matter.

Oh and the step up program is out of the question.

    Thanks

Keep it and continue to enjoy the games you play.

well, what you can do, is :

    1) return it
    2) buy it AGAIN, but from a company that has a step-up program
    3) when the 9 comes out, step-up your card to the 9 series

Nobody knows how the 9 series is gonna perform, its all just speculation at this point. Wait until they're actually out then make your decision, and until then just enjoy what you have.

That depends on what card you are getting to replace it and what you look for in games. If I was to trade a 8800 for a 7900 or 7950, I would because I don't have Vista and I don't care for DX10 right now. See my point?

Okay, well I just read that Crytek said an 8800 series GPU will be able to run Crysis with max settings at 1280*1024, so not too much to worry about then.

ya. i go with gmavignier. if you a high performance ex-VGA, wait a little bit till the new asskickers to come. when you buy the 8 series Geforce, it's stupid to throw it away and get the 9 series, so you'll wait till the 10 series to come out and then think again about the whole idea

I don't doubt it but some people really don't need that much power. Not everyone has a 30' monitor to run games at super high resolutions.

Well just to clear everything up....I'm coming from a 6800GT, so it's a pretty big upgrade.

Go with the eVGA and have the step up program available to you. Not only that you can replace the heat sink if you like with no warranty void. Long as there's no hardware damage to the card itself you can always return it for a replacement and they actually encourage you to overclock your card:D

As far as the whole deal with the 9800 cards coming up a previous post has it right. No one really knows how they'll preform at all so there's no way anyone can claim that they are 100% faster let alone 10% faster.

Another option to you is to return the card and wait till the 9800's come out and wait till the prices drop and if you're not convinced that the price difference is worth the performance difference you can get the 8800 at a better price:D Win, win in this case:D

Just wait till the new cards come out and are compared against the current ones in all the new games like HL2's new jam, Crysis, etc. Then if thiers only a couple of FPS difference at the higher resolutions then stick with the 8800 cards.

And for the guy who mentioned the specs for running Crysis at max settings at 1280x1024...come on bro'. You know you want them settings at 1600x1200:D

This is true. The 7900GTX has plenty of power for any game on earth at 1280X1024 and lower. For the majority of people, this is more than sufficient. For the select few out there running 1920X1080 and higher, or better known as Gurus ;), it's just not cutting it anymore.

Yeah, I have had my card for almost a year and a half and it is still holding its ground. I got no reason to keep up with the jones! I remember when I got my card last year in march and 2 weeks later the 7900GTX comes out. I was pissed, but I did not know how fast technology was moving for gpu's at the time and I was fairly new to buying them so I did not fault myself too much. I will be getting the next Nvidia card that comes out. It is about that time.

I've switched yesterday from a 6600xt to a 8600gt and all I can say is that this one will last for a looooooooooong time. When the 9 series come out, they will be quite expensive and unless you are rich I doubt you'll benefit from buying a 9 series card before they lower their prices. I play all my games at 1024x768 and I am extremely satisfied with the image quality, so I don't need higher resolutions thus I don't need more powerful video cards. The one I have will be good for a very long time.

    Keep your 8800 GTS.
I believe the G92 chip will be as powerful as the 8800 GTS, may be less powerful just like the 6800 GS.
