Could this be the worst Sci-Fi show ever?

I mean this is just dragging on to be a soap opera in space, which is doubly boring. I mean Battlestar Galactica was twice as good and it pretty much had the same premise.

I honestly can't see this making a third season, can you?

This show is not meant to be a epic space battle uber alien invasion type show. It is a show about people and their ability or inability to survive in a very bad situation. I personally love the show. Depending on writing and such and budget I could see this show going a while. They just have to play it smart. At this point I am not sure where it is going, but that is a good thing. Once I can tell what is going to happen 3 eps past the one I am watching, its over. So far they have kept it sort of fresh and have done a great job with character development. It is not a show for everyone, it is kind of a gilligans island but in a sci fi theme.

    It's still going?

I stopped watching after the episode where they all thought they were gonna die because they were going to fly into a star, but the nothing happened. Waste of an hour.

The problem is that they used the "Stargate" name and theme, which implies pure sci-fi with battles sometimes.

We already had a show about survival in space, it was called Battlestar Galactica. This show is just a pure cash-out on the 'Stargate' name.

    I think its great.
I worried a bit because it became boring in early episodes but its picked right up.

So far in season 2 absolutely nothing has happened to progress the series. I mean did you see episode 5? Absolute trash.

There's no large enemy to destroy, they don't travel offworld much.

I mean seriously, stick to what works.

It's terrible and has nothing to do with the Stargate series...we are even lucky to see the Stargate get activated atleast once an episode.

They need to shut this show down and bring back a new Stargate. Maybe a new SG1 type series that is probably set 20-25 years in the future from previous SG1.

SGA was great as well, the characters were quiet entertaining.

    SGU is total rubbish...

    SG1>Atlantis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SGU

SGU has so many ****ty episodes that add nothing to the main plot or the movement of characters...

The most annoying thing I have, is that I keep hoping that they will fix this ****, and go on in the old Stargate style, because that is totally awsome!!

Also, I really really really hope that after mankind survived all the episodes from SG1 and Atlantis, we don't act so goddamn imbicile when we strand on some awsome spaceship.

I was a big fan of SG1 but after season 5 or 6 i simply lost interest because it´s was always the same stuff of the previous seasons...

A second movie would be cool...

As others have stated, the thing that annoys me the most is that at the end of the day nothing of consequence happens/changes to progress the overall story much.

I think I've figured out their basic formula for each episode:

    [establish Conflict relatively early]
    +[drama dram drama]
    +[weak attempt to develop character/s, maybe a flashback/hallucination]
+[resolution to conflict, most likely within the last five minutes]
=[exact same situation as the beginning of the episode]
+[maybe some minor changes (if that) in relation to resolution]

EDIT: Also, when the hell are they gonna get Dr. Rodney McKay over there with the communication stones? He'd get sh*t done.

The last episode was terrible, that has to be said and all the episodes have started with that same "previously" sequence that has barely changed, they added that the girl can do ridiculous math, wow ground breaking stuff.

I thought episode 4 was OK but I wasn't in any hurry to get episode 5 to start with and after seeing it, i'll be in no hurry to get episode 6. It was so predictable and obvious what was going to happen, i think we know by now they don't kill off main characters.

Pretty much the only thing that is keeping me with Stargate Universe is Robert Carlyle, i'm Scottish and a big fan of his since the Begbie days.

    Well said that man.

Called it three episodes in to the first season, got as far as the sixth episode before saying 'yup pants no more of this' haven't watched it since.

The thing is, first of all Atlantis had the option to tackle the same situation and to a greater or lesser extent did in the first season. The underlying pronciples are there, the Ancients built a way to get there so chances are they built a way to get back it's just a matter of them finding it but Atlantis managed to keep the underlying Stargate theme going alongside this.

Of course the ability for the Daedalus to travel inter stellar at the start of the second season played down this issue. The thing is Atlantis tackled all the same issues, food, water, power survival and even threw in a big bad to give some focus but they just got on with it. Okay they technically glossed over it but given that the first five episodes of Universe were them finding essentials to survive interspursed with human interest 'or should that be boring whining' stories then I would rather have the glossed over effect please.

The thing is Universe has killed Stargate. If Universe fails they'll stick the nail in the coffin, if it succeeds then it's a green light for more of this watered down space soap opera. Worst of all the Atlantis movie looks to be all but dead now, the half arsed rushed ending it got really needed the movie to give it at least a half decent close.

After episode 2 I figured it would suck badly, but I gave it a whole season before I said screw it. I didn't even know they started the second season. I suppose the show itself isn't all that bad, it's just that with the Stargate name everyone expected it to be like..... well STARGATE. Who'd have thunk that? I was never a fan of BSG, not even remotely, and even I can see that it's much better than this crap.

If this series had an entirely different name I don't think people complain about it at all.

I'm really quite enjoying it. At first I was bored because I was hoping for the same old formula (mainly off world trips), and a bit pissed off a few mere Ha'taks (sp?) managed to **** up Earth ships so quickly, after everything we know about them (advanced Asgard technology being the main advantage).

However, once I came around to the fact this is not meant to be traditional Stargate, and started seeing the characters develop, I started to enjoy it. Season 2 has been even better. Although I loved Atlantis, it still seemed to be a more or less copy -> paste of SG1 in terms of characters. This time round it is much different. Less camp humour, more dark and menacing.

Dr Rush is a very interesting character, especially given what he's doing at the moment. Colonel Young is also a great character, and I can't wait for the tension between them to kick off again.

One thing I do wish would happen is more of those damn aliens showing up. And finding out more about that planet a lot of them are on.

I never thought Stargate was just about the Stargate. Sure, it's the centerpiece that the universe revolves around, and is a staple image for the show, but ever since the first episode of SG1, I have felt Stargate was about mankind beating seemingly undefeatable odds, and the struggles (both grand and personal) that happen along the way. Universe fits that perfectly, just it's more personal.
