This game is probably one of the most popular titles around in the genre of PC gaming in history. Its predecessor StarCraft 1 was released in 1998 and it is still going strong within the community. This game is unique on its own so really if you do not try it then it is bad for you. The fact is that the game is not overhyped because of its gameplay that it has which is probably the most important factor in all games. It seems not long enough though
dude under no circumstances should anything about starcraft be called "meh"...SC is the complete opposite...obviously you dont know SC because i dont know if you know but people still play it to this day and i personaly consider the best RTS of all time
StarCraft is THE RTS title for PC. If you have never played StarCraft, go play it now and stop being a little bitch. I can't believe some of you don't see what all the hype is about. I remember buying StarCraft when it first came out in middle school and flipping out over how awesome it was. I still go for a game every now and then on battle.net.
lol, for 9 years continuously this game has been in production and being sold in stores worldwide...NINE YEARS. Do you have ANY idea how many advancements have been made in graphics, gameplay, and general complexities of gaming in the past nine years? You won't find some of the PC games on the shelves one week from their release yet the original Starcraft has been produced and sold for NINE YEARS. I am stressing the "Nine years" part so much because it is imperitive for you to understand that a business would not waste money on something that had no demand. And nothing would be in-demand for close to a decade if it weren't that good. Korea (as strange as it may seem to you) has Starcraft matches for people to see on LIVE TV. Imagine turning on ESPN Sports Center and getting an update on the latest Starcraft match that happened today, crazy right? But that nation LOVES it. Trust me, there is so much more to the Starcraft universe than you will ever understand unless you actually play it and allow yourself to be completely immersed in it. Over the years I have bought 4 copies of the game; some got lost, some got scratched up beyond repair, etc. And every time I bought it, I was just as excited to play the game again for the umpteenth time as I was the first time around.
To this day I still compare all RTS games I play to two titles which are embaressingly old: StarCraft and Ground Control. Since them - nothing has come close. (Although TA and E2050 certainly had their moments) Now with World in Conflict on the horizon and Starcraft 2 announced and looking pretty good I am preparing myself for some serious RTS playing once more.
Uh how old are you like 10? maybe that is why you did not experienced the starcraft era from 1998 untill today, well now is most in korea
just an opinion: holy sword what's this blasphemy starcraft on lan with my other friends were awesome times one of the best gaming moments there
WOW! so many flames lmfao. Yes, I have played Starcraft years ago. I am 35 btw, I've been around hella years lol. Started gaming when Voodoo 1's were the **** and have not stopped since. I know what starcraft is and I know it's popular. I just didn't realize it had such a huge following still. But personally I see nothing ground-breaking yet, nor am I even interested enough to care if it is ground-breaking or not really. Don't diss me cause I'm not into RTS games, I just think they are boring as hell.
no flames, we just try to open your eyes on how popular SC is... hell i see at least a row of copies of SC in any respectable game store i go to
I built this rig a year ago... Guess what game I first installed? yep... StarCraft! haha yeah I even installed it on my Laptop to play when I'm bored. Edit: Oh they added that 20min gameplay vid on the official website now... comes in 450mb and 270mb sizes http://www.starcraft2.com/movies.xml
I doubt this game is going to become a failure. In an interview Blizzard said they've been working on StarCraft 2 since 2003. It will probably be released at the end of 2007 or the begin of 2008. That means it had a development-period of 4-5 years! That's a long time for a RTS. Blizzard also isn't a novice in making RTS's, so who knows what new and cool stuff they've put into this game.
I about flipped OUT when I saw the notice when starting WoW. I've been wanting this so bad. Haha, honestly, for some reason, my favorite part of SC was the Terran music. Heh, just the little things in that game that make me love it so much. Forget Halo 3... i've lost nearly all interest in it now. The exploding medics, exploding marines - "Battle cruiser reporting" - reavers blowing up like 4-5 rines at a time.. Evolves, Sunken/Lurker D's .. ahh, it's all so great >< And wow, those nukes have never looked better ^_^ And honestly, this is blizzard. Like ... every game they make ends up being game of the year. They don't know how to mess up...
Madness!! This is..... STARCRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA........FT!!! Then act like your age. In Korea, you'd be killed for saying such things. SC earned godlike status there.
No, i respect your opinion, but your opinion sounds childish. Like a kid saying that the gfx sux bla bla bla for example. Yes, i'm exited, but this game is in an very early stage, so i can't really give an opinion atm. But it looks promising. C&C3 was also better than expected (because EA developed it). But then again, i can't compare EA (99% rushed games with wacky patch support) with Blizzard (polished to the bone and years of patch support and there are still SC1 patches being released. Patch 1.15 for StarCraft (BW) is in the making).
well I've never really enjoyed RTS games but maybe this one will actually capture my attention. It does look good for a RTS game. IDK guess we will see, I was just in AWE at how big the fan base was, I never realized that's all.
You know, i wasn't an RTS fan as well, until i tried Supreme Commander and C&C3 and my first thought was: "Why didn't i like this genre 10 - 15 years ago?" Now i'm more becoming an RTS gamer (I'm also an (J)RPG fan), since FPS games aren't that special anymore IMHO (It's all about gfx lately). I'm playing the Civ collection again and i'm addicted, i'm playing C&C The First Decade & C&C3 and i'm addicted. Same goes for Diablo 2 and StarCraft. I'm also trying FSX. I tried STALKER, but removed it already.
