Haven't seen a thread regarding this upcoming movie so here it is ! A LOT of expectations for this upcoming Star Wars movie, after the wild success of The Force Awakens, and somehow controversial The Last Jedi. J.J Abrams & Chris Terrio claim to wrap nine movies, as it seems a bunch of Ewoks dancing wasn't up to the task. Following Leia Organa, Chewbacca, C3PO, R2D2, Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Lando Calrissian, as well as newcomers Rey, Poe Dameron, Finn, Maz Kanata, BB-8, Ben Solo in their last adventure ! Movie releasing the 18th December globally, featuring what will also be the last contribution from John Williams to the timeless music universe that Star Wars has become. P.S: Soundtrack for the movie is available online - Tracks have no name so no real obvious spoiler here https://web.archive.org/web/20191210202934/https://disneystudiosawards.com/star-wars-score.html
As much as I wanted to be optimistic about this movie it's hard to be knowing how much force (pun kinda intended) Kathleen Kennedy put on J.J. and George to make the movie her way. That is if they can actually figure out what ending to use, they've got about a half a dozen laying on the cutting room floor.
I am skeptical about the rumors online.... so if I have it correctly. There are 3 prevailing stories... but I'll be honest I'm even more skeptical about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - I expect many a retcon of the original Star Wars trilogy of the 70s-80s. One "Kennedy influenced JJ cut" Multiple screenings, dissatisfaction of many testers - Bob Iger orders immediate re-shoots. "Iger influenced JJ cut" Fairs better than the previous cut of the film but still garners a negative aggregate from screen-testers. "the Lucas JJ cut" Lucas consulted, did script work. Disney never confirmed if his work made final cut (all facts). What is possible fiction is if he ever contributed to a re-shoot "cut". That rumor is his,JJ's test-screening scored the only positive aggregate of 3 overall re-shoots ordered by Iger. Two Final cut of the movie was a compilation of all the aforementioned "cuts" just mentioned. How that's even possible is beyond me. Three The movie was finished up until a month ago then 75% was re-shot after Iger was unhappy with optics and perception. I wish there were laws that protected art and social commentary of significance just like we have historical landmarks that are protected by laws. Honestly it does gross me out how intellectual property can be violated as easily as someone "selling" the rights they own to something away? What a joke...
I really liked Force Awakens and having not followed any rumors/alleged leaks, i'm still fairly confident for Rise of Skywalker. After the disappointment that was Last Jedi for me, my interest can only go up at this point. P.S: Soundtrack for the movie is available online - Tracks have no name so no real obvious spoiler here https://web.archive.org/web/20191210202934/https://disneystudiosawards.com/star-wars-score.html
I went to an iMAX showing of The Force Awakens. I had a big hot dog, popcorn, a huge drink, and took family with me - with pristine seats and no one sitting in front of me 2/3'rds the way back (iMAX is a steep angle, you gotta get the 2/3'rds back for optimal picture). After the showing...I'm never going back to see another Star Wars movie again. Ever. I'll catch it for free in a few years on teevee, but, if you ignore mythology and just have no characters (a character is someone who has clear and understandable wants, wishes, needs, desires) then you have got no story. No characters. No Story. It really is that simple. The current crop of roles they created...no one knows anything about 'Rey' and what she wants...or Finn...or Poe... none of these roles were any good, and Disney (as I mentioned recently) just want to peddle plastic, and have always seen Star Wars as a toy-production machine, where all they have to do is pander to man-babies (in their eyes) and fleece money from them. Probably the most uninteresting, yet expensive films made in recent memory... And I'm not even mentioning the 'SJW' elephant, on its menstural cycle, in the room. At least Marvel Movies have actual characters with flaws and quirks. What flaws does Rey have? Or Finn? Or Poe? Or Purple Haired liberal-arts major? With charcters this uninteresting and uninspired, you could put any actor/actress into those roles, and even gender-flip them, and the result would hav been the exact same: Talking mannequins, with no depth...a little bit like the plastic toys Disney makes, perhaps?
What cracks me up is ... SW would have been better treated at Amazon Studios instead of Disney. At least Bezos likes space exploration, has more financial backing & owns a company interested in profit & good content. I mean come on Lucas holy crap "white slavers" why Disney I will never know. EDIT: The irony of-course being Bezos treats a large portion of workers whom provide work for Amazon services like... well crap... aka to the Lucas crack
I will still take my brother as he loves star wars and is just in it for the fun. Does not need to over complicate anything. Watch, enjoy and as long as he is happy, I am. This is the way.
Oh, absolutely - but will they remember it in 5 years time; or 3? I can remember the trash compactor scene from when I was very young in 70's, it scared the hell out of me! I was afraid for the characters, but in 'this' I doubt whether anyone cares for the safety of the characters.
The last thing I want at this point is to encourage Disney thinking they're doing a good job with this...Disney's take on Star Wars has been a tsunami of raw sewage...
I agree about Rogue One being awesome. I think it earned by having every character being new and not many direct ties to the other movies. The other movies suffer from continuity issues. I didn't like Force Awakens, and I dislike Last Jedi even more each time I think about it. I won't watch Rise in cinema this time.
I really liked The Force Awakens and thought it was a great start to a new trilogy. I was excited to learn more about Rey's past, who is Snoke? the Knights of Ren, is Luke gonna train Rey? And then The Last Jedi came along, WTF did I just watch?
I just have to imagine that this baby yoda thing is already intelligent and able to communicate. I mean 50 years old, right? I assume Dagobah is the planet these things are supposed to be natives of, so they're like lizard-man-sloth things. So maybe it takes them time to develop or whatever, but 50 years? Come on, would ANY sentient species take that long just to learn to talk? Maybe it just wants to look cute as some sly defense mechanism and so it chooses not to talk but instead make cooing noises. If it really can't talk because it's still a "baby" then that means it won't even be able to string together a sentence by the time "Mando" dies of old age. And how the hell old is this Mando anyhow? That dude in the last episode looks to be in his 60s and talks about how they ran together when they were young?
You might know more about it than I do. But then again, with Disney in charge, who knows what's "canon" anymore? At any rate, as far as the movies go I can't recall anything that makes me think yoda-type creatures are from anywhere but there.
Just as an aside, how long do successful movies stay in theaters now? 8 weeks max? I know it isn't as long as it was before the home video explosion. The first Star Wars stayed on the big screen at our local theater for over a YEAR and was still playing on a smaller screen for another 6 months after that.
Yeah, while I didn't like Force Awakens, I did give it the benefit of doubt because I did hope that they'd have good explanations to everything in TLJ, but they failed. TLJ also brought down Force Awakens in a sense since so much of Awakens focused on Luke and the Order's fear of Luke, only to discover that Luke's plot almost was useless.
