Why does every actor except the old cast look like they are completely random people picked off the street? They have the most generic faces I've ever seen.

Data looks quite rough in it for an android who shouldn't age, especially if he's a memory now, but the rest look great, very excited for this.

Still think this should be the theme tune though:

At least they don't seem as annoying as Wesley. So that's a plus, I guess. :p

There's a lot of history and personality behind the old faces, whereas the new ones are just faces before you get to know them, before the characters are built properly.

That's actually a very interesting point; there has always been schools of thought regarding two elements of television regarding the actors and actresses: faces.

It has been said that for an actor or actress to be convincing in television that the facial movement and action/reaction must be exagerrated as the camera is typically close or very close. This is because televsion is normally shot in a 3 camera setup of wide/left/right. The centre camera is locked-down and on a pivot, whereas the right and left camera are on a track and can pan across their respective sides of the set. The centre cam normally has a 25-30mm wide lens, and the two side cams have a 45-50mm. During the 80's/90's, this was considred the 'optimal' setup for sit-coms, but also made it into other genres. 'Friends' was shot like this, as was every other sitcom. It needed to be fast and efficient as they were using Film stock and had to plan the production around the 3 camera setup.

What this led to was, a requirement for the actors to increase their facial movements, and for casting to find actors and actresses that could convey very small changes in emotional states when the camera was close on them.

So your point about the old versus new is (I believe) absolutely spot-on, as the new has no 'depth' to them, yet the 'old' have all the charm and 'character' to them, as when they were originally hired, this was part of the necessity.

How quickly can one distinguish themselves on television? Well, in the eyes of many casting directors, this is down to the variety of facial expressions they have got.

Ever watched a movie/tv show and can't really remember what happened in the story?

    Lack of character.

I just signed up to the forum for this one post:

This is exactly what i thought!

Thanks for the reply. But one question remains. How does this justify picking random hipsters for the new cast?

The guy is like 70. I think he actually looks fine considering his age.

I most likely gonna watch it, but clearly done to be on the "safe side" for numbers, which a giant like amazone wouldn't really have to worry about.
He"s not a captain anymore, so staying with the amount of time that has passed, he would need to be admiral/ambassador or even a "teacher',
none sound like interesting stories that "you" can tell.
