The land of DRAM and NAND are highly volatile, however, for NAND there's currently a ton of developments as well as overproduction. And that means good news for NAND flash storage if you are a consum...

I imagine the ever hungry phone industry will suck some of the production. Middle level phones would then get much bigger mass storage. 16GB has been fairly common, but it would be replaced by 32GB as the new norm, and 64GB would be for manufacturers to attract particular attention. That's how less would be available to PC SSDs, making the prices not drop so much. Since DRAM prices aren't dropping that much, maybe we will see more of those bare bones SSDs, without any buffer memory, that attempt to leech on the system memory to compensate.

1000x0.08 = 80 usd ...so we might see 1tb drives 100 / sub 100 usd ? bring it on ! although i guess it is for qlc nand ones

    Yeah I doubt that.

    "64-layer 3D NAND at $0.08/GB in 2019" - doesn't mean SSD $0.08/GB.

SSD conteins much more that just NAND memory, you need a controller chip for that NAND, SLC/DRAM cache, firmware, PCB and case which will definitelly add much more to the price.

It will be most beneficial for producers as always, it will allow them to reduce actual costs of production per single device unit, but I doubt you will see huge if any price drops on customer end.

Another misinforming article on guru3d.

Looks like I will get that $99 1TB M.2 sooner than I thought, but I reckon it will cost at least $149 by the time it has been built.

There are dozens of SSD manufacturers competing with each others. If the NAND prices for the SSD manufacturers get cheaper, competition will handle the rest. With DRAM that's exactly the problem: The manufacturers can't get the chips for sensible prices, so the competition can't do anything, despite there being a whole bunch of memory module brands as well. Not too long ago SSDs were considerably more expensive because there was a bad undersupply of NAND chips. That was somehow sorted out, but DRAM is still scarce and the few chip makers no doubt have made some clandestine deals to keep the situation unchanged.

did not claim at all that this is the case they transferred the experts analysis .... i am not sure why you said that i guess you just read the tittle ?
the 100 usd is a bulk estimate 110 ~115 are also pretty close what kind of margins you think they have ? Also we are not talking 64layers 3d nand but the QLC is 96layer nand !

    SSD's about to get cheap!!!

Waits for the news to come out of the manufacturing plants that some fire/flood/earthquake has wrecked the factory and means prices will remain high or SHOCK! HORROR! have to increase because of supply restraints caused by loss of factory production.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Title was confusing. I thought it was going to be 1/80 of a cent. :D Should be either $0.08 or 8 cents.

This is still nowhere near HDD prices.
In Europe where stuff is usually more expensive it's possible to get 4TB HDD for just 96 Euro:
    https://www.amazon.de/Seagate-ST4000DM004-Interne-Festplatte-Cache/dp/B0713R3Y6F/

I'm guessing in US it's even cheaper.

Even at $0.08 / GB, the price for a 4TB SSD is $327, and most likely going to be much higher than that (400+)
Let's wait 5 more years and maybe we can talk about price similarity with HDD's

    p.s. - @MaCk0y is right, title is confusing. It's 8 cents per GB, not 0.08 cents !!

Do you need 4GB SSD for RAW movie editing? I personally am about to get 480GB M.2 with good speed, and I am happy.
Vertex 4 128GB for OS where I use less than 30GB as I have full backups, Vertex 460 240GB for games, Seagate HDD 500GB for data.
And I'll add this super fast M.2 480GB for some games and virtuals.

But if there will be M.2 or SSD costing $0.10 per GB, I'll get additional 1TB and be happy.

That right wavetrex and 4TB will most get down $500 in a year or few year as they barely got down to $1K as right now vs some time ago when it was at $2K
Dear people keep in mind that is whole seller price before they add it on to any component board
Retail current price is about .20 to high .30 top tier brand so at most we may see over all 25% drop in price with Sata and match it NVMe buy next year or in 2nd quarter of 2019 so hard to say what will happing the rest of this year but we all find out.

Unless you go by the title.

0.08 cents per GB. I'll go use a few quarters and a nickel to buy my next 1TB drive. ;)

It is said in the article that 8 cents per 1GB is the approximeted price for 64 layer 3D NAND, I guess TLC.
QLC is only mentioned as new technology in development, suggested that it should be even cheaper.

Did you even read guru3d article? :D

I will believe it when I see it, I heard many time over the years since SSD came out next year they will be at HDD prices I would love to have all SSD drive but I wont buy SSD atm for anything other then OS drive there to expensive Cost space ratio is just not worth it to me

It does't really matter what I or anyone else needs it for.

This is completely incorrect, and that is what I pointed out. Doesn't matter what capacity you pick, 8 cents per GB is nowhere near enough to bring it at HDD levels. HDD's are now at 2-3 cents per GB and continue to get lower as time passes and new capacities are released.

Not really as long as it is "need" and not vanity. Someone may think that it is needed, but in reality drive serves as BR backup and media is copied out of it to external storage so rarely that one saves 30 minutes of per year. And even that may be questionable as user would spend all that time doing something else anyway and not waiting just for copy action to finish.
You get to meet they only after you become they.
