Halo meets Quake meets Portal. Splitgate's an arena shooter with portals, and it's as awesome as that sounds. Contrary to games that stick to Quake Arena's template of an arena shooter, Splitgate throws everything at you: you've got your guns, you've got your melee attack, you can sprint, you've got your portals and you've got a jet pack. I've got to say, all that 'new' stuff really gets the juices flowing again for an arena shooter. Apparently there are some Halo 3 developers involved, and the game's just launched this week. It's not overly polished yet, but what's there is fun, and that's most important. Getting into a ranked multiplayer game takes some time, but you can also practice against bots. It took me a few matches to get the hang of the portals and jet pack, but once you get into the flow, it's really a great game. Did I mention it's free on Steam?
