I used speed fan for my last computer.. i was able to adjust the speeds for cooling....

not currently so with my pc....

    why doesnt speedfan detect fans

and more importantly what can i do?

speed fan shows that fire logo next to all of my cores on my i5 750 lynnfield more often then a green checkmark and more than the blue down arrow

this cant be good (im thinking it cant be)

I ATTACHED A SNAPSHOT FROM SPEEDFAN TO SHOW YOU

Use HWMonitor from CPUID, it's a much better sensor reader than SpeedFan.

that doesnt cover adjusting fan speeds though... can they do that?

i used CPUid, but maybe i have an outdated one that doesnt allow fan speed contol maybe??

im mainly looking for adjusting fan speed with the courtesy of nowing fan speeds and temps (like an all around fan utillty)

Doesn't your PWM suppose to manage them (unless you have a Zalman cooler)?

well thats just it.. i have a ZALMAN 500W X2 psu... i had to upgrade the stock HP 460W based on the GFX card i have....
you know...... i forgot that i can hook em up to my psu instead of the mobo hahah

ill be right back with the outcome...(i probably wont be able to hook the CPU fan to the PSU because the mobo need to be able to detect a fan for the CPU)

Speedfan has gone downhill since Vista. It mis-identifies nearly every sensor. You have to fiddle with it quite a bit for it to work right.

Make sure you have installed the latest chipset drivers, the SM Bus driver might be missing.

i cant find any decent chipset drivers cus my mobo is an MSI Indeo (in english, this is a factory OEM board from HP)....

you know what else is crazy, i cant even disconnect the Case fan.. and i thought only disconnecting the CPU fan would stop the computer from booting.. haha

i tried to hook the case fan up to my power supply's fan connector in order to utilize my PSU's Turbo-Fan switch, and it wouldnt boot.... SINCE WHEN DO MOBOS DETECT CASE FANS AS A REQUIREMENT TO BOOT??

the more I try to tweak my hardware configurations, the more i wish i hadnt bought my PC from HP!!

    well darn :(

Ye, this is why I don't buy OEM machines anymore after buying one for my bro and absolutely regretting it.

The Zalman PSU has no control over your fans. Your fans are controlled by the PWM on your motherboard in the BIOS.
