hi i'm building a pc used for gaming movies and music and looking for a decent 5.1 speaker. currently i have the z5500 and edifier s550 on my mind with the s550 sounding better. i know there is the klipsch promedia ultra but they are already discontinued. so i would like to ask are there any speakers around this price range that sound better?

Have you considered just going with a system meant for HT instead of "PC" type speakers?

^^Both are awesome. Heard both of em'.
S550 bass reproduction is clean and undistorted. The passive enclosure does its work well.
Z5500 on the other hand seems premium and sounds premium. Obviously, it is more costly than Edifier. But Logitech covers that with solid support and 2yrs warranty period.
If price is not the concern, go with Z5500.

From my research the S550 is meant to sound considerably better, but i have never heard the Z5500. Heard people say the Z5500 is built pretty cheap in places and fails sometimes.

Most around here would tell you to go with the Edifier's.
2 way wooden sats are better then the 1 way plastic Sats on the Z-5500's.
The bas is much more controlled and tight on the Edifiers. Bass is very bloated and sloppy on the Z-5500's.
