Ok... i've been reading around, from the major line of cards, ppl seem to say Live cards are crap... and suggest you go for the other cards like Santa Cruz etc.

I haven't ventured into the sound cards too much, i've only ever used onboard sound until recently where I got myself a Live!... i thought it rocked at first, sound was so much better and those EAX effects were so cool... but many ppl/reviewers have opposing views

So, which one do you ppl prefer, comments from ppl who've tried many cards would be good. *hint* *hint*

There are actually reviews on the Hercules game theater xp here at Guru as well as Turtle beach or whatever the name is. Most owners of the other sound cards claim better quality sound. But some say it isn't worth the hassle. It is more a personal preference, and speakers make a big difference.

    Ah, the sweet spot.
I see Bugsy didn't read the Turtle Beach review... if you had, you would surely know it's name! The Santa Cruz, my boy! The European version is called Philips Acoustic Edge and the Gametheatre is a Santa Cruz in disguise. Until TB puts out another card, I'm sticking with this one.
Actually I did read it. I have a live and I'm just not really interested in getting anything else. Not that the others don't sound better or anything. I'm content with what I have. My focus lately has been a new vid card, then a new c drive. Then my Live! will be the oldest component in my system. Then I may look into getting something like the xp. When I get into a house I want to use my Computer as the sound system for the whole place. I plan on getting wired for sound, literally and figuratively.

I've got the SB Live 5.1 and combined with my DTT2200 speakers the sound is superb. But it's all down to personal preference. I prefer a little more mid rage and less treble than most people.

All I have to say is Turtle Beach is a very good company. VERY nice sound cards, and my Montego II beats Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 cards. And the price is really nice now, >30 bucks? But if you're into recording stuff onto your computer, go for the Santa Cruz for 90 bucks. Excellent card and it doesn't cost too much. Go Turtle Beach! hehe
Ok, all i know is that Phillips Acoustic Edge is about 10 bucks cheaper, but I would go with Santa Cruz. They have their name value, and I recommend it
Ow, man. My eyes are deaf already. I tell ya'll that I been doing this sh1t for nearly 20 years and it's still a crapshoot as to which board is goind to work with what mobo. If what you got works, then by all means, use it (Terratec DMX, eh? . The one real power that Microsoft has is to enforce a damn standard that will make computers work. I'm actually interested in the Xbox; I think it will be a good thing.. if we can run Linux on it.
Well, maybe. To Bugsy, I understand the upgrade habit all too well. TB and the Santa Cruz does deserve a looksee but it has a great Creative barrier to overcome in peoples' minds.
