It's funny when ppl dismiss Steam statistics because of supposedly small sample (LOL), or due to unrepresentative sample (LOL!) or because "I clicked away when asked to participate in a survey"

But judging sales of brand new product based on 1 hw website?
Hmm... it's an idea, although not terribly accurate one I would guess.
I counted OCnet card clubs membership:

    • GTX 1080 club: 50+
    • Fury/X/Nano/ProDuo: <100
    • GTX 980 Ti > 600

1080 has been with us less than 30 days, 980T/FuryX - a year.

    Well, you can be exact:
Their GTX 1080 has 52 people. GTX 1070 has 8 people.
GTX 980Ti club has 627 members.
In each price range there are limited number of people willing to spend money. There are no magic increases in this limited number of people unless purchase strength somewhere around world increases enough to allow large group of people to affect global statistics.

In other words if we take GTX 1080 as $600~800 category, it can 'only' take away from limited group of people who shop there. And they mostly have GTX 980Ti.
But I am sure there as here there were people ditching their 980 SLI and 980Ti-s moment they saw:

And as result, they simply got newest thing available.

To me who buy a 1080 at more than 800€ it's only a stupid. (here in italy you can find online the 980ti at 430 and the 1080 at 700 that is almost 40% less, for almost the same value if OCed)
There it no point to do it, Nvidia Has sold the new gen card in reference of the price of the old gen card, above theire true price range (they had to have 970 and 980 price range)... Hope They'll stop to buy them to have a reasonable drop in prices. Only AMD could stop this Nvidia Greedyness

The 390(x?) has better FPS also with a worst Cpu score... :frown:
About 10-15% more for the 390(x?)...
This damned test do not show the frequencies

    Exactly.
And yet, regardless of that and of the fact that 980Ti owners are waiting for big pascal - the bitch is still selling! It is what it is - you can't wish this out...
Got any theory on 2500 GTX 1080 sold on mindfactory.de and on Gibbo saying 1080 outsold 970?

You'e glorifying NV marketing machine, yet you doubt they can sell 25% faster product that brings alot of other goodies, rly?

You do not need to know frequencies. And yes, RX-480was paired with stronger CPU and got higher CPU score.

But game version was so vastly different, that there is no reason to compare result. Shader effects could have been extremely different. Even geometry of each object.
And on top of that. AotS benchmark is is not consistent due to having randomness incorporated.
(Or did they turn it into real benchmark already?)

Yeah. My answer to GTX 1080 outselling GTX 970 will be seen in next steam stats.

    Rubbish man. Total Rubbish.

    980 Ti has 1% there. GTX 980 has 1.04% and GTX 970 has 5.13%.
I want to see GTX 1080 top those there as best selling card ever.

No it's not rubbish. I can tell you right away. Of course it didn't outsell 970 globally.
But it's what you get when you draw conclusions based on 1 single retailer (1 hw forum etc).

I noticed that is a different version, and surely it's a random benchmark based on procedular shaders.. so it could vary but i do not know by how much, i've never done it. But it's anyway a result.
in general Aots is a scenario where 390 perform well, it will be more interesting a bench where the cards have geometry bottlenecks (like crysis).

No the benchmark is very consistent I get same exact score every time. You clearly don't use the AotS benchmark because you don't know that, so why are you spreading misinformation about it ?

The game version changes do not affect score I have tested across game versions, I have results files of all my benchmarks .

It is comparable, and the game versions are all 1.2.x
    basically latest few patches

AotS bench is really consistent even with randomized events issue is vastly different scores for 390/390x and it does not differentiate and of course we never know the clocks of the cards.

It is hard to find which one is stock lol... Unless you can do the test yourself. I actually want that game but cba buying it.

Now imagine just for a second you're, I don't know, Andrea Pirlo. Ok, you're a football superstar, mega rich, you love gaming. You buy a 1080. Are you stupid?

Man, don't be so narrow minded. There's millions of people on this planet to whom buying a 1080 is nothing, it's change money.

If you had unlimited money, and even tried to pretend to be computer enthusiast. You would have 4x GTX 980 Ti long before 1080 would make its appearance.

And then you would show middle finger to nVidia premium priced 1080 SLi where you have to get that little extra code to have SLI for 3 or 4 cards working. And that other stuff they mentioned.

Just saying. Today? 4-way SLi? No problem, just get 4x GTX 980 Ti. And it will come at price which is rather attractive for this kind of performance.

If you had 4x980ti, you would likely swap that for 2x1080 as performance would be better most of the time.

PC hardware is actually quite cheap as an enthusiast hobby.

This is not about unlimited money. A lot of people who work full time can afford a 1080, no problem. Hey, I don't have one but that's out of choice. I buy value for money, always, I wouldn't buy a 1080 out of principle because value for money is bad. PC gaming isn't actually that expensive. Even if you buy top end, what is it, a new gpu for £500 every 2 years? Cpu/mobo/ram will last you a few generations.

It really isn't that expensive compared to other hobbies.

Majority of gamers are buying 200-300$ GPU. Thats the "gaming spot". Huge numbers game even at 100$ GPU.

To be honest not even one of my friends is having a 600+$ GPU, hell i dont even know anyone around here that have such a expensive card. I know my country have a lower standard than some but still...

I hope RX480 will be huge success and swing the marketshare towards AMD, they need it. tired of nvidia gauging prices up up and up.

You do realise that the last AMD high end card (FuryX) cost more than the 980ti. Yet it performed worse than 980ti. Look at the launch prices of any high end AMD card in the last few years, their pricing isn't any better than Nvidia's.

Surely. Nvidia could also sell the 1080 @3000$ and somebody would buy it anyway...
But the point is that the card it's overpriced for the card range and for the average buyer. It's the 980 successor not the 980ti
