SoftFireGL on HD 3870 / Success, apparently

You don't really need the CCC, try the SPEC ViewPerf10 Benchmark and post your system specs and the score you get.. (if you run only Catia I can tell you if the mod worked or not..)

But I have no real hopes, because the softmod officially doesn't work with HD4xxx or Vista..

I have Vista 64bit and work with SolidWorks2009. I know i know is not softmod for Vista OS system, but i try rewrite BIOS edit by RBE. This program only edit ID VGA card. Ok i try install normal drivers...I´v been happy ... install without problem. But after restart error. Ok I´v been rewriting too old bios and install manualy drivers for FireGl 7700...all been ok and i try SolidWorks .... realwiev is ok. But score in Viewperf sw-01 is only 14,22...when its problem? System know this VGA card...solid know this card but i havent power FireGl series...

softmod to 7700 or 8650?

is there a difference? i have HD2900XT modded to 8650 right now.

there may be some differences, as someone found out, some months ago, that certain programs used a "white list" of cards on which to enable certain features, instead of relying on what the driver says the card can do; I don't remember which were those programs, though (it's not maya, that's for sure)

apart from that, it's exactly the same

 

Thanks Norman, i have been seenig some selection problems in various applications. Like surfaces not highlighting, recently, this is a new problem after 6 months of a good mod. Just wondering would flashing the bios on the card help? Seems something is up now with the card thanks.

I re-seated the video card and blew off the contracts problem seems to be gone for now! ... After days of work was just that simple?.. Well so far so good.

Is there a newer bios to flash the card to? should I?

 

What about softmod for HD 3870x2 1G DDR4 ?

the modded card will show all the glitches that are present in the drivers you're using; we'd be getting rid of all these things if AMD corrected all those bugs in their firegl/firepro drivers, AND someone succeeded in modding those drivers (latest AMD drivers are giving the gurus' some headaches, it seems)

I think it can be modded, but will give you even more trouble, and it won't be more powerful than a modded 3870; still, if you have one, and also have the time to play with it, give it a try

 

someone did it a few posts up and because it's only a 3870, it will just act as a 3870 in terms of performance

 

Its going to be really cool when you guys crack the 4XXX series. Do you think they have locked the cards now like Nvidia has? Kind of just waiting for the axe to fall.. Not sure if "locked" is the right word.

the issues I was having have not returned yet since the card was re-seated, happy camper.

Hi every one I have a 3870 soft moded works perfect in every software tath I tried exept in sketchup, I got serious problems with selecting faces volumes etc...

any ideas?

oi! some newness? in mine hd3870@FireGL-7700, to driver 8.453.1.3 Xp64, I perceived several bugs in Solidworks 2009 xp64, working simultaneously with assemblies and parts…. some success with new drivers?

I use soliworks 2009 sp3 X64, and when I am using a vision in cut in the assembly, when I open a part that is in the assembly, or the part he disappears or he is in cut as in the assembly.
and...
when I open one heavier part or in surfaces, the part disappears, and while I am rotate the part, it is visible and when I stop of rotate it comes back to disappear. what it can be? in its PC, you modified some configuration of catalist control centerl?

I modded my cards

saphire 3870 modded
firepro 9170 on xp32 (8.44)FULLY WORKING
and v7700 xp64 (8.4X.1)FULLY WORKING

1 or 2 hours later system immidiately restarting.always doing this XP32 AND XP64


and i just bought

xfx 4870 1gb moded v8700 (only work %90 fine in x32 DRIVER 8.603 MODDED DRIVER DOWNLOADED INTERNET)
this restarting too (LIKE 3870)

BOTH CARD RESTARTING IN 2 HOUR
(LEAVE COMPUTER IDLE AND INTERNET DOWNLOAD ----OR---- FULL 3D BENCH ALWAYS RESTARTING IN 2 HOUR)
I LOWER GPU MHZ AND RAM MHZ AND DONE IT AGAIN

is there any fully stable card...for long usage
3870 fully works
4870 neraly fully some scpec test not working bur solidworks work fine.

Partyboy, are you sure it's the video card? I have a 3870 modded to 7700 in Win64 using schloko's script and 8.453 drivers. Maya is stable for hours.

 

I test latest patch for 8.633 driver on XP x64

Ignis your testing is appreciated. You must know that testing only with specview proves you unlocked something. Testing on a real program that is accelerated with firegl/quadro is only worth it. I hope you can report on some real programs like Maya, Proengineer, Solidworks...
