Could anybody please upload the exact script (*.rts) and CX_56527.inf, I've been trying to softmod hd 3870 with no luck, I get the same performace with firegl driver and catalyst.

    DEVICE ID = 9501
    Graphics core : RV670 (320sp)

    Thanks in advance

Well I have done everything right. Installed the patch script for the FireStream 9170, modified the ini file, installed the 8.44 drivers, it found the 9170 firestream driver for my card and installed fine. I rebooted and tested specview and getting only 82.23 score?

    u probably didn't delete the original ati2mtag.sy_

in your drivers folder there should be the ati2mtag.sy_ and ati2mtag.sys (the one that was patched).

    delete the ati2mtag.sy_

    then reinstall the drivers.

Something isn't right on mine. Its working but not aswell as it should be. I may try running it as the 7701 instead of this 9170 see what happens.

Also, I seem to be getting alot of random crashes (fatal errors) in maya all of a sudden. Not only that but the scene I have been working on, I can no longer rende the character with its high quality textures. I always get a mental ray fatal error saying out of memory or some bull****.

I didnt think goin from my 8800gtx with 756 memory to 512 would make that big of a difference.

This is weird. People with 2900XTs are even beating me. It's a huge improvement over stock, but its still short changing me somehow.

Figured my problem out. I had my overclock at 7x428 and it was too much strain on the northbridge so my pci-e port was getting limited to x1 instead of x16. Even going into bios and disabling force x1 didnt help. I had to change my overclock to 9x333. I am sure jacking up my northbridge voltage may have accomplished the same but who cares now...

    well there you go.

never really understand why people overclocked by taking the multiplier down... that's just wrong. ^__^

    HIS HD 3870
Hello, need some help about "softfireGL" an HIS HD 3870 (512MB GDDR4).
I would be interrested in "best OpenGL performance" using our CAD software (no mainstream one's).
    It's seem you got it.
So could you give me some advices how to start (links, ...) and tell me if it's risky ?
    Thank's
(I've never modded anything, but I can manage with drivers and adaptation ...)

just follow my lil guide here >>

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=2638168&postcount=4

    Just enable the V8650 instead

then in the inf file add a line
    "ATI FireGL V8650" = ati2mtag_R600GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9501

there's no 3870 with 1 GB memory and no it won't change performance with more ram unless you are working on a big huge scene or assembly with 50,000 + parts.

If you need more ram just get a 2900xt 1GB

any 3870 will work the ones with factory overclocked are like 1.5% faster.

more important than numbers... did you also get rid of hang-ups?

by the way: in maya, the only time my modded HD2600XT couldn't cope with what I was working on was when using lots of hi-res textures which could not fit on the card's memory, so an HD3850 with 1gb of ram may be more useful in practice than an HD3870 with 512mb
for high poly scenes (as opposed to hi-res textures) the selection lag bug will be a problem way before fps falls under 30

    Hi,

    I am planning to buy a new Ati; but as I run up to 4 monitors; so I am not sure if I shall take 2 3870 or one 3870 x2. I did run 2 parallel softmodded ATI before;

but anyone an Idea if also will be possible to mod the x2?

    Thanks
    Ron

you can do 2 cards to display 4 monitors and mod each card to Firegl. I had it working on my SLI board with one 2900XT 1GB and 1 3870 card mod both to 8650 so it uses the same drivers.

Not sure bout the x2 though ^__~
