    Congratulations for your team. But honestly france deserved to win more than anyone on this whole world cup. I agree Italy made its goal by itself but a goal doesnt always mean a teams superiority.

    Where did you hear this? Is there some kind of news source that explains what happened off camera? If yes, please post a link, I'd really like to read about what exactly pissed of Zidane so much.

    None of that was off-camera. You can view it all in videos. Ofcourse you can't hear what they're saying.

    The nipple grab can be seen clearly in any replay. Check this out;

    As for the racial slur, that was posted on Wikipedia, and this article was cited;

    Look at the 7th "mini-paragraph" down.

    Materazzi's a bastard anyways. This will make you sick.

    The guy should be red-carded from the sport.

    Slightly amusing though -- Look at Zidane when he gets grabbed. He's like "WTF?! Did he just...mantouch me?!"

    Well after seeing Materazzi on that second video and then what he did on this worldcup I'm kinda glad and happy Zidane headbutted his arse, he deserves more than that.

    i like Italy, and i'm happy that they won (especially since their victory has given me a higher chance of winning a certain contest!), but i have to agree that Materazzi should've been sent off as well. Players like him only make Italy look bad.

    Overall, even though France played better than Italy in the second half, doesn't mean they deserve a goal just for that. The overall outcome of the match was fair, and that's final.

    Materazzi deserves a suspension. Come to think of it, his team will probably be relegated to the 3rd Italian devision, but that's not enough punishment for players like him.

    Next worldcup, FIFA should pay more close attention to the subtle "psychological" warfare on the pitch, like Materazzi's grab and racial slur. It's a shame, Materazzi made the whole win for Italy bitter sweet. I am glad for Italy, but it must be hard to celebrate when you know your teammate is a disgrace to your team and the sport of football in general.

    Materazzi should be suspended. I can totally understand Zidane, first there was the nipple twister and then after that he called him a "F******arab terrorist." Since Zidane's heritage is Algerian and he is a muslem he took this very deep. As I said I can understand him, and France was the better team today, it was just decided on penalty kicks in which it can go both ways.

    The thing is, Zizou is usually such a calm and composed player. He's a shining example to younger players, you never see him get worked up, arguing with the ref or other players.
    Which makes this even more shocking - it must have been truly aweful. Even when get got the red yesterday, he hardly complained!

    Darkplayer: Beware of rumors and urban legends...there's no way of knowing what was said. If you have a source, I think we'd all like to see it.

    Zidane always flips once in a while, he has before but not lke yesterday.

    Anyway you guys can say France deserved it all you like, I don't think they did. The game was even IMO. Defending is the Italian style of play, if you look at all their previous world cups, their strategy is to score a goal then hold the ball until the whistle is blown, in yesterdays case they held on till penalties. Considering all the scandal that's currently going on in Italian football and the pressure on the players, it was a well deserved win. The same thing happen in 1982, the Italians were accused of match fixing and Poalo Rossi was banned. 2 years later he led the Italy team to the world cup and was named player of the tournament.

    The only person I felt bad for yesterday was Zidane. But he's still won the Golden Ball so I guess it isn't all tears :)

    Disgraced France star Zinedine Zidane has scooped the Fifa Golden Ball award at the World Cup finals.

    Zidane's World Cup and career ended on an extremely sour note as he was sent off for a headbutt on Marco Materazzi during France's World Cup final defeat.

    He was not allowed to pick up his loser's medal, instead being left to contemplate his actions in Berlin on Sunday from the solitary confinement of the dressing room.

    The disgraceful act threatened to cast a shadow over his illustrious career but, somewhat fittingly some may argue, he has risen from the flames to claim the top individual prize at the World Cup finals.

    He polled 2012 points in the vote by journalists covering the tournament, beating Italians Fabio Cannavaro (1977 points) and Andrea Pirlo (715 points) in the ballot.

    The vote was open once the shortlist was announced after the quarter finals and his displays prior to the final are likely to have swayed the journalists to come down in favour of the former Real Madrid man.

    Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn won the Golden Ball in 2002. Other previous winners were Brazilians Ronaldo (1998) and Romario (1994), Italy's Salvatore Schillaci (1990) and Argentine legend Diego Maradona (1986).

    even if France played better, the bottomline is that Italy managed to put up a good fight. So if a team plays better in terms of possession, and shots on goal, does that mean the other team must go "Oh noes, their playing better than us. We should let them score a goal for their effort".

    Same concept applies to any kind of competitive situation. Someone can perform better than their competitor, but it comes down to the end results.

    According to the specialists in lip reading, Materazzi called Zizou's sister a prostitute, twice. Although the Guardian supports the terrorist comment..

    I am very proud of the GErman this year they did grat they still pulled togther a 3rd place win over the fakes of Portugal and they put the best goalkeeper still OLIVER KAHN, i mean just putting him in one game shows how big of a mistake it was to stick that lehmann guy in, Oliver played like he is known for playing, And i still think that italy should have never got the trophy i really i really think that FRANCE or GERMANY deserved it, france played better, ANd how does a team that tied with the U.S. go on to win the biggest honor in any sport.

    no... they were about the same. Italy had to deal with Ghana, and Czech Republic.
