But will it see the light? They've created at least one single slot solution for every generation since the 200, 400, and 500 series and they were never released to be sold, as far as I know.

Sorry, that card would fry..... 79C under load with the reference cooler, it'd be peaking well into the 100's under load with that garbage on it.

Maybe they will sprinkle some magic on it to make it cool, kinda like zotac are doing with their 2Ghz card.

If it's not a 4 slot cooler i'm not interested - i love my shaman :D. That's what i want, a mount for the shaman to go on a 680.

This could work if only the heatsink was wider, which would make the card 2-3" fatter.

Even if it is their mid-range card it still heats up like a high end card. The stock cooling is absolutely pathetic on such cards, a single slot cooler is asking for disaster. The only times I've gotten good results is with massive 3 slot coolers (Accelero Extreme types) which I suppose could be possibly done within 2 slots.

    Normal 2 slot card:
----------
----------

    That single slot card:
--------------------

Doesn't that manufacturer know it's not about the thicknes, it's how you use it :p

It's not the size that counts....it's how well you can direct your A/C vent at the card sticking out the front of your case.

thats because nvidia ditched the vapour chamber this gen and went back to a heatpipe based heatsink. i would imagine the gtx680 would run a lot cooler if people opened the shroud and swapped the gpu heatsink for one of the vapour chamber ones found on the reference 580s/570s.

if they use a vapour chamber in this single slot model, the temps could still end up being better than stock.
