Hello guys im a guy that mainly uses pc for watching 1080 movies and playing casual games like GTA V.Here is my config: Xeon E5460 @ 3.5 GHz/FSB @ 1644 MHz 2x2 Gb DDR 2 @ 986 MHz 5-5-5-15 HD 8570 1 Gb @ 1 GHz(Both core and memory) 120 Gb SSD/1 TB HDD While its old its enough for my daily usage. The problem is my motherboard cant support more than 4 Gb of ram and as the whole setup is already old paying for a 8 Gb motherboard like P5Q isnt a good idea.I usually play 7/8 generation games so no DX12 support is needed(Although my gpu cant handle DX12 anyway). The question is that for playing old DX 10/11 games wich os gives me best performance/less lag(according to my 4 Gb ram)Currently im using windows 7 should i upgrage to windows 10? And i already have a windows 10 license so i shouldn't pay for it. Thanks
Seriously is this some joke or what? How can you play GTA V on that system? Are you playing it on an old CRT @480p. If i was you i wouldn't bother upgrading to Win 10, there's nothing useful for you to use in it. I'm not being funny mate but i've thrown away better systems than that, into the bin. Surely you could get something a bit stronger for not a lot of money. I've seen plenty of old second hand AM4 systems for sale online for a £100 and that was like a AMD 2600, mobo and 8gb of ram.
There may be a difference with Vsync and things when going from 7 to 10 that might improve latency? Things like fullscreen optimizations and different flip for windowed apps? I don't know what that actually means compared to how that's handled on 7. Performance-wise, I don't think going to 10 will yield any improvements. If you use LTSC or generally trim-down Home or Pro, I imagine game performance would be about the same, maybe a little worse because of improved security mitigations. I would take note of how performance is on 7, and install 10 LTSC. See how it goes for a day or so. If performance is still tolerable, I'd recommend sticking with 10. Linux might also be an interesting choice; it appears the 8570 is GCN 1.0 and supports (older?) DXVK and Vulkan. GTA V plays fine on Linux today, or at least I can vouch for singleplayer with ScriptHookV.
I'm confused now too, your profile page says you have this system already>> CPU: i7 3770 3.92 GHz GPU: 1660 Super Motherboard: Asus P8H77-V LE Ram: 16 GB DDR3 1696 CL 9 Storage: 1 TB SSD Power Supply: 480W Operating System: OS: Heavily Modified Win 10 21H2 LTSC
Well nope actually im using a 1080 TV and i can play GTA V @ 720p 30FPS/Normal which it is way better than Xbox 360/PS3. And yeah i know my system is dated but it is still as fast as a Athlon 200 GE(both IPC and multi thread)and my gpu is +10-20% faster than vega 3 and that £100 costs £200 here and i know it seems odd but in iran economy is a true nightmare.Me as an IT technician can barely make £300 in a month while a worker average salary is £100 in a month. Anyway thanks for your response it seems there is no point on using windows 10.
So what happened to the other system? Did it break or did you sell it. Sorry if i came across as a bit of a dick i didn't realise you were from Iran. I thought you were from the UK for some reason.
I have Duo Core e8400 with 4gb ram that was running windows 10 bout years ago i put SSD in which speed thing dramticly, system was not used for anything but web browsing and solitare it could probably play some old games too, it had 660gtx in it I tried SWTOR the MMO once it ran the game at 30-45fps on low at 1600x1200 which monitor that was connected to it was, It certainly ran better with win 10 then win 7. probably cause i had to do less maintance on it. but yah windows 10 should be fine. I have since retired that pc, when i go back to NC the parts in that pc will be gutted and put into Antec 300 case. and will be upgrade to i7 920 for dads use.
Generally speaking, newer OS gets support and optimizations for newer hardware (CPUs, chipsets, NVMe/Network/Audio controllers). So in absence of newer hardware you can use older OS.
