stay away with SLI. if u got money to spend y not wait for GTX 1080 Ti or grab GTX 1080 with cheaper value.

depends at a guess because your stuck with sli to get an performance boost from your cards i'd say you have a very noticeable performance boost from the gtx1080 with games that sli fails with. if not then surly the 1080 is not worth the money.

when i had crossfire 290x's then sli 970's it was grate when it worked with games but other than that most the time the 2nd card was dead money.

You will see a big improvement in games which do not support SLI or are hitting your 970s VRAM limit.

if your gona sell your 970 to fund the 1080gtx I would, but i with others on SLI thing single card solution is better. I dont even think Nvidia wants to continue support sli?

thought the 1080ti was proven to be fake? has no info popped up?

Because of your cpu, I would go for it and make some money back on the GTX970's to fund it.

for example in assassin unity with gtx 1080 you will get 60fps in 1080p all maxed out with TXAA, with gtx 970 only get 32fps or less
in batman knight with gtx1080 you get constant 60fps in 1080p

    is very notable the difference

buying a gtx 1080 for 1080p is stupid, come on that resolutions is already 9 years old, ****ing old, instead of buying an expensive videocard to use it with tons of antialiasing on an outdated resolution if your aim is 60 fps you better use a bigger resolution screen 1440p with smaa looks (and performs) better than 1080 with 8x msaa yet even than 4x txaa, txaa is the worst antialisng method created, a blurry mess.

So for 1080p stick with 970 you can run AC: unity/syndcate at 60+fps with only smaa (or fxaa that is not as blurry as txaa)

but you can do wahtever you want with your money

So i ended up getting an evga superclocked 1070 gtx and its much better then the 970 sli setup. I ended up putting the 970 sli on a slower pc and it works good so i will leave it there. I price matched the card to Amazon and bought it for $409.00 best buys price was $449.00, im happy with it!

So 20-25% was enough to make you go from "this card is overkill for 1080p" to "that's a better choice"?

Some games won't even go much beyond 80FPS at 1440p on a 1080 so that would make the card a perfect fit for, say, 1080p 144Hz.

Who cares if 1080p is 9 years old?

FW900 CRTs have been running 2560x1600 since 2002. 1440p is 14 years old. ****ing old. Get with the times.

actually 1070 is the sweetpoint for 1440p and overkill for 1080p, it's true but you can't change people mind, people will always be stuck on 1080p thanks to stupid aa filters like msaa or txaa that will not be good as real high resolution, so if i don't want trouble like in other thread when i said 1070 is overkill for 1080p tehn i have to agree that 1070 is a 1080p card even if i don't want to really admit it.

it's true what you say, but those never were a standart and only used by a 0.5% practically maybe just a few with nothing more to do with their money could affor those monitors and capable rigs at those time, and the 14years 1440p was used for other purposes not end user computers and applications, 1080p is an end user stardart for more than 9 years, a way to long run for a standart digital resolution.

I currently have my 1080 for 1440p too, i didn't picked a 1070 cuz i need those 20%+ of extra speed i'm not sure if you will ever understand but those "insignificant 20% extra" are very usefull in a lot of scenarios and 1080 can OC better than 1070.

I happened with 970 too, was the sweetest spot for 1080p but i bought the 980 cuz i really need those extra too.

gtx 1080 is not enough for 4k/1440p-60fps constant in batmanknight/unity
    and
gtx970 is not enough for 1080p-60fps constant in batmanknight/unity

based on what? 2 bad 2015 ports that nobody cares right now and nobody plays? or using the useless filters like txaa and msaa8X/4x, :stewpid: and they say i'm the troll lol.

    1440 smaa/fxaa/no aa > 1080p txaa/msaa8x
