For the moment I have a crappy 20$ case with the side cover off and I was wondering if I get a new +-100$ case will I see temperatures drop mainly for the gpu .
Summer has arrived and the GTX 480 got to 91°C with the fan at 85%.

Definitely get a new case but before you should try an air spray on that GPU, might be too much dust. I can say from my experience that after getting 90+ on my OCed GTX275 (a hot card by default) with fans at 100% I used a can of air and the temps decreased dramatically to 70+ under heavy load.

I have the Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced, the windowed model. I am very pleased but it's a little more expensive. The HAF 912 is also a great case but you'll have to add at least one fan to it, the top is not included.

New case does wonders! +1 on using compressed air to clean out your fans. I have to do this 2 or 3 times a month as my appartment loves dust!

Cases are designed for airflow, unless you have a giant fan pointing in it put the side back on. Side on: air comes in the front, out the back, traveling across components. Side off: fan moves air a couple inches away, no airflow across the board, hard drives, PCI cards...

And cleaning is especially important with the side off. There's a good chance your fins are clogged with dust.

There is some dust on the fins but nothing to worry about.I do a full cleanup every month.
Yes I know there is no airflow in a case with no side cover .

Will a new decent case (like the HAF 912 or any other recommendation) WILL DROP TEMPS
    ON ALL COMPONENTS? especially GPU

    In fact it's this:

    http://www.pcgarage.ro/carcase/cooler-master/cm-690-ii-advanced-window/

Don't know if you compare the two which one's cooler, both are OK and they are priced according to certain features. It's only my personal preference as the 690 looks better for me. Anyway HAF stands for High Air Flow and their reputation is good even if the 912 is the entry level model. Maybe check for reviews on the net?
