Should go for 960 4GB or 280x ?

I have a 670 and I was thinking in a slightly better graphics card.
The options I have in mind are: 960 4gb and 280x.
I am attracted to the fact that the 960 is quiet, has low temperature and low power consumption, plus compatibility with directx12.
I believe, however, that the 128-bit bus leave it well behind the 670 and 280x.

    What do you recommend?

These cards will be sufficient for games of "next-gen"?

    Thank you! :)

Depends on what Resolution do you game at? I would get the 280x because of the wider memory bus. The 280X is faster than 960.

neither are that great of an upgrade from a 670. i'd go for at least 970 or a 290/390. 280x is basically a 7970ghz. you would be buying 3 year old tech. and 960 is very underwhelming compared to 660 and 760. not a great buy IMO.

Certainly it's not much of a performance gain from a 670 to a 7970GHz. The only differences would be in the architecture, and how the drivers support either.

Because that 3 year old tech is doing better in dx 12 than nvidia,s current tech.I think you should wait the new line of videocards from nvidia and amd and then decide.

You cant go wrong with gtx970 or R9 390. Both cards would a good upgrade from gtx670.

GTX 960 (128-bit memory bus) GTX 970 (3.5GB+512MB video memory) and GTX 980 (waaay to expensive) but it all comes down to your needs...

This 3 year old tech doesn't do anything in DX12 because the highest feature level it supports is FL11_1. Stop spreading AMD's FUD.

Please stop with this, it's been proven wrong many many times.
Fury x and 980ti in the scheduler bench are very similar as a whole bunch of other n out cards. It is not a gpu benchmark. Oxide themselves said it not really the best benchmark for dx12. The results in DX11 show how bad DX11 drivers have been over the years. DX11 has been out 7 years.

    Out of those two . . 280x.

(Owned many cards from both sides)

I'd go nVidia. Owned cards from both companies in the past few years and I must say, the lower power consumption of nVidia and lower noise are great.

But as someone said I'd go at least for a 290x or a 970. 280x has only 3 gb of RAM and that would inevitably bring you problems with games like The Witcher 3.

And don't believe the recent AMD propaganda at least until REAL DX12 games come out.

The Witcher 3 doesn't use more than 2,5 GB of VRAM even in 2560x1600 which these cards are unlikely to be able to pull. But you have a point - 4 GBs are better than 3.

My 280X uses 1.7GB Vram in TW3 maxed/1080p, no hairworks, around 35fps. For 150$ i think its worth it.

960 is far to weak to fill that 4GB anyway.

    280X don't support D3D_FEATURE_LEVEL_12_0 and D3D_FEATURE_LEVEL_12_1
    R9 380 (or R9 285) on GCN 1.2 is better choose than R9 280X on GCN 1.0 because 380 support D3D_FEATURE_LEVEL_12_0

    but still i advise GTX 960 4Gb

    Let's look at some prices:

    GTX 960 4GB is $229.
    GTX 970 is $289.
    EVGA B-Stock GTX 970 is $249.

If you can afford to make the jump up to a 970, or refurbed (bstock) 970, it would be a really good move. Would certainly be worth saving for.

Yeah... No hairworks, that's why you get such low mem usage... That's also only available on nvidia, if I'm not wrong...

Its avaible on every card, not only nVidia. Also, did you try running a hairworks maxed on a card like gtx960? It cripples even 980ti by alot.

I dont even turn hairworks on.
    It kills my framerate.
And it just looks tact on like physx does in most games.

Id rather a 280x over a 960. 3 year old tech or not, that thing is still a beast for $150 or less.

Minimum 970 coming from a 670 imo OP. I would not go 960 or a 280x from a 670. Not enough of a jump in performance.
