The condensation drain pipe on my combi boiler froze solid (I mean a solid tube of ice 1.5 metres long, 32mm drain pipe too), Back up all the way back to the boiler which threw a massive fit.

if you have the same problem try this worked for me.

If you've got a combi keep an eye on it it's that constant drip, drip, dripping thats very prone to freezing.

    merry xmas all.

When we left our old condo, they left the water on but not the heat. The pipes froze and burst, and completely destroyed it. The floor was caving in, literally.

If you're going to leave your house, I reccomend draining the pipes if you dont want to leave the heat on. Its pretty easy to do really :).

It wasn't ours, we were renting. The landlord had to file for bankruptcy so the property was under the bank's control at the time.

They didn't winterize the pipes. My parents almost bought a house with busted pipes. The pipes busted, leaked everywhere, and now in the framework there's mold everywhere.

Antifreeze, a liquid which prevents the snow/ice from freezing

Yes I get that. But I asked into what water/which pipes/what in general. I wouldn't want to poison myself by drinking tap water that has antifreeze in it. :3eyes:

Pipes froze? yes it happens.but FFS why the PIPES r not in the walls? as a contractor iam asking that to u my friends!

and if that pipe is frozen , i dont recommend useing hot water like that to melt the ice..it can break the pipe..

and again..why the pipe is outside? not in the wall...hmm maybe the building is old and they put pipes later times ? i would still put it into the wall with a special material around it not to get freeze like that..

Neither did I. I don't know anyone "irl" who has had the pipes in his house burst because of cold weather. But hey, different building standards I suppose.

Guess the pipes could of been old and rusty? or Do you think they are average plastic pipes??
