By the time 8k content is available, it will be obsolete, tech-wise, spec-wise..

I hope by the time 8k is mainstream, we'll have HDMI 3/4 that is capable of 16k 60Hz with a single cable :)

  6. The only place I see it useful is medical education... really... I believe the tech comes from that branch, where it actually does help and is useful. Phone Cameras are capable os such resolution already, paired with proper optics the same sensors can act also as a medical inspection instrument.

Completely agree, I'm concerned that my 4K TV is going to be obsolete before we see any real volume of content for it.

SuperMHL cable is currently in development.
    72Gbit/s bandwidth compared to DP1.3s 25.92Gbit/s or DP1.2s 17.28Gbit/s

    Enough bandwidth to allow 8k @ 4:4:4, 12bit color and 60hz.

But, i personally hope to see a 5120x2160, 4:4:4, 10bit color, 200hz monitor single tiled on SuperMHL. Which would take up 66.35Gbit/s. (5120x2160x30x200)

    Exactly what I want lol.
An ultrawide TV or Monitor with those specs.
I downsample 5120x2160 to my ultrawide monitor.

tv's these days are like cameras. Everyone talks megapixels but they don't mean squat. I'll take a house full of old a*s pioneer kuro sets over something like this

Out of interest, would any current GPU actually be able to output a game to this? I know that only very old games would actually have anywhere near a playable frame rate, but can it actually be done?

If I wanted a screen that large I'd be looking at projectors over Tv's personally.
