Ok well if you’re all sure the ram upgrade isn't worth it then I'll take that out as an option.

How much faster are SSD compared to ordinary hard drives at booting up windows?

Would 2 GTX460s bottleneck my CPU at 1920x1080 resolutions?

My motherboard won't accept an overclock higher than 3.6GHz as it has a FSB limit of 1600MHz. Will 3.55GHz be enough?

thats the resolution I play at. the higher the resolution the less the cpu bottleneck. are you bottlenecking maybe a little. I`m sure I got some cpu bottleneck running a 580 with a s775 quad.

After reading every thing the OP has posted, I would first get a 40-80gig SSD and Win7 64. Then when you can grab a 2nd 460, and last pick up another 4gigs of ram so you have 8 in all, I love having no page file.

460 SLI works well most of the time but there are a few games where it doesn't, few source engine games and GTAIV at least in my case, I run in Single GPU mode for those

I have never read so much rubbish as in this thread improve your performance by sticking in a ssd over a 2nd 460 you are kidding right
your best improvement you can do is sticking in a 2nd card 1st then cpu then memory timings in that order or better still upgrade to a I series 1366, 1156, 1155 set up will knock off 20mins off encoding over a core2

dosent matter if you have a 6 core i7 or a 1400 celeron your music wont play any faster, 2 things you want to increase performance in is encoding and gaming sli and cpu is where its at how long windows takes to boot means nothing want to boot quicker tweek your os

To be fair, several people did tell the OP to get a second 460 but I'm not sure he really knows what he wants!
