    Fellow Gurus,

r0k0 and I have been discussing processor bottlenecking of late. In short, do you think dropping a second 7800GT in this sytem [new mobo and PSU obviously] would result in a severe CPU bottleneck?

Assume any given games are being played with 'max settings' @ 1600*1200.

There damn well would be a bottle neck on the gfx card caused by the cpu

lmao, oh piss off, one person's opinion isn't the law.:D

You're going to need another few posts like Marvels' to change my mind. Empirical data is always a nice way to back up an argument as well.

Your P4 is bottlenecking the one 7800GT you already have. Getting another one will only compound the problem.

run 3D Mark 06.... then someone with a AMD and a 7800GT stock both run 3D Mark 06 and the score will be WAY better on the AMD System

ok well a 670 3.8Ghz aint even close to you since it has 2MB L2 Cache and you 1MB and 200Mhz less...

well i have a 7900GT and i get 2020 HDR/2.0 and 2018 HDR/SM3.0 and cpu well 1918 or something like it total is 5020 marks

OK smart a$$ the CPU tests don't count for anything to your total score in 05. You can press ESC when the CPU tests begin and still get the same score.

I also assume you got your above score in 06 with your CPU @ 3.6Ghz?

    a single 7800GT with a single core Athlon 64 @ 3Ghz.....

    And another one.....
    @ 2900Mhz Athlon 64 and 1 7800GT.....

Pentiums are horrible at benchmarking period, I'm not insulting you, only telling you the truth.......

hmmk, I'm definitely starting to see what you are saying, but I still have a hard time believing that while I play oblivion @ 16*12 on max settings, it's the processors fault i'm getting 10-30 fps.

Yes but the above was with a single core. Your dual core pentium is losing to a single core Athlon :frown:

I'm sorry, but this is the truth......While it's not entirely the CPU's fault, your CPU just can't feed the card with data fast enough and the card is actually waiting on your CPU to finish it's calculations. A single 7800GT is just not powerful enough to play many of todays games @ 1600x1200 to begin with.....

And regarding your 7800GT and Oblivion.....

ATI is much faster at this game than we are...:(

spectacle do you think my CPU is now fast enough for my 7900GT..? because my GPU score never increased overclocking to 4.0Ghz in 3D Mark 06

...Which is why you buy another one!:booty: Right?

Also, aren't we always hearing about how 3DMARK etc isn't always a good representation of of real-life performance? Do you guys have any convincing data from games, as I have given?
