I do intend on putting games and other programs on the second partition (I'm not buying another disk though).

However, I've just had a thought. Say my XP becomes corrupt, or I lose my partition - if I reinstalled XP, wouldn't the clean registry render most of my programs and games unusable? If that is the case, I might as well keep all my programs on the XP partition after all.

No, Most games work fine. You will need to create a shortcut on the start menu to the executable after a re-install.

    Many programs also work fine.

There are some that you will need to re-install. Microsoft Office is an example. I believe all Microsoft programs and games (Halo) need a re-install. Don't you love Microsoft?

Another advantage of moving everything to another partition is that the Windows partition will be small and the size of the image will be small and manageable. Always a good idea to have an image for a fast restore.
