Is this an overall issue with these cards or more user error?
more or less its the problem with the xfx version of that card.
The evga and msi 6600 gt versions have no errors reported thus far(to my knowledge at least). I'm getting a leadtek in tomorrow ill let everyone know how it goes.
i think nvidia screwed up somewhere with this card. from what i've read no amount of reformats, driver updates, bios changes, driver changes cures the lackluster performance in 6600gts. on top of that some are getting artifacts, bsods, and freezing. and european retailers are reporting highest rma returns ever with 6600gts.
go to any computer forums u can find and do a search for 6600gt and u'll see pages of 6600gt horror stories.
hmmm... well, mine had problems.
my case has a lack of airflow
id say most of them are user error
Also, I'd say 95% of the problems are with AGP versions.
yea, i have a suspicion all the problems stem from the hsi on agp cards. ati warned about issues with bridge chips like that. nvidia may get things out first but it's always a rush job. i'm confident when ati comes out with their bridge chip after all these months of work it'll be done right.
after all these horror stories i'm going back to ati and saving up for a x800pro or waiting until ati comes out with their budget x800 agp card after flirting with the idea of getting a 6600gt.
even so, I'll still give u my overview of the leadtek when it arrives tomorrow. I promised didn't I?
With my new case and a correct airflow I solved my heat problems with the 6600GT
Now works like a charm.
I think most are user problems.
yeah, reading the horror stories about th 66GT also hold back my purchase, now im stuck with the TNT2!
il be lookin forward to yer review Xion99
i got my Leadtek 6600gt today , everything fine but not as fast as what the reviews claim it to be ,maybe it's just my pc and that i didnt reformat in a coupleof years or i might be bottlenecking
I was very close to purchasing the XFX 6600GT for my sons Christmas but opted for an Evga 6800nu instead ... kinda glad now I did and only $20 more after rebate offer.
i just got a msi 6600gt and it was doing terrible as everyone's else, i formatted and now i get 90.11fps avg on the css stress test, i think my 2500xp and 512ram are bottle necking it. i am getting a 3400xp within the week.
i dont want to format and then still get a bad performance. my hdd doesnt let me partision for some reason.
