Flashed my 500GB ST3500320AS 7200.11 9BX154-303 SD15 successfully to the new firmware :) working fine, no data loss.

I have a ST3500320AS without any issues but did update to this latest firmware. All went fine, new firmware is now SD1A

    FYI:
I had to take my HDD out of raid mode for the flash to work.

Does this apply for the ST31500341AS as well? I'm too lazy to read through a million forum posts right now. Mine has the SD17 firmware.

the fixed firmware seems to be model specific, anyway i downloaded the one for the ST3500320AS, but I also have a 320Gb model with me (obviously not the same model number)

do I have to remove the 320Gb from my PC before upgrading my 500Gb's firmware?

Seagate recommends that you unplug other HDDs beforehand :)

I just disconnected the data cable, flashed the bad drive, plugged it back in and voila, all working 100%. (plugging done while pc is off though)

Just the sata cable will do.

SATA is hot swappable so you can connect the SATA cable with the power on. Just like a flash drive.

I was wondering about that as I have an 500 GB Hitachi HDD as my primary drive with Windows Vista on it and fortunately (for me anyway) the new Seagate Barracuda 720.11 HDD I fitted a couple of weeks ago only has Windows 7 beta on it and a copy of the backup files from my external Iomega drive. So even if the drive has failed I wouldn't have lost anything.

I won't be buying any more Seagate HDDs though as I've seen how utterly appalling and apathetic their customer support is and the mess they've made trying to fix this issue. I'm not impressed.

I only unplugged the power from my hitachi HDD and my other optical drive and then flashed, no problems, the update went well... No data lost, HDD working like a charm...

The latest fw seems to bring dead Barracuda's back to life.

Although I won't replace your drive if it doesn't...;)

i have those same two really low but i havent flashed my HDD yet. IF they dont go back to an acceptable level, will this indicate that the drive is somehow damaged?

IMO i had the drive for 8 months now, i heard sometimes loud clicking coming from it that worried me... perhaps im better exchanging my 1TB for a new one then flash the new one? i dont wanna see my current 1TB fail on me even after flashing it .. ... :bang:

I have a 500GB 7200.11 drive with the SD15 firmware and I'm thinking about upgrading to the latest firmware ... but it seems that the new firmware changes the SMART values or something... but it also seems to improve performance (due to better cache handling they say...).
    http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board...thread.id=5625&view=by_date_ascending&page=45

This shows some of the users that have this problem...

So to you guys that already updated... check your SMART values and see if there is something wrong with them ( use HDTune or speedfan to see them...) ...

To those that are going to upgrade anyway... check your smart values before and after... and report please.
