Our problem is the argument between People who think technology is already as far as it will get just adding new improvements and the people who think there is a lot left to be discovered.

    Questions for a survey

    1. What do you think about the current technology?

    2. Do think that the technology today is advanced as it can get?

    3. What do you think that we could do to improve the technology?

    4. Do you think that we can discover anything new?

    5. What could We do to change the technology.

    1. Current technology is actually probably two iterations behind in the consumer area.

    2. Absolutely not. Moore's law is no such thing, it's just a benchmark that current technology uses to measure their performance.

    3. Graduate more engineers in America. Mechanical, engineering and electrical engineers are needed in the US, and right now students in the US aren't focused on those disciplines.

    4. Yes, there's no question we can discover new things. It happens every single day, but it's happening in places other than the US so we don't get the benefits of developing technologies ourselves. We are more dependent on the rest of the world right now to discover new things.

    5. See #3.

"Science has now discovered all there is to discover" was a popular notion among engineers in the 1870's. Were they right? The answer to that question is the same as the answer to your question.

Eventually there will be quantum based computing, that is the biggest step I see coming down the road..
