Samsung to offer UHD FreeSYNC Compatible monitors

sounds like alot of good things happening for the gaming community i may go team red once the new cards are revealed

 

this is exciting news. looking forward for future reviews.

 

so first october , then december now march 2015 lol. the best part is people think this is an achievement for them but they have nothing but promises and claims on their side and not a single product out there or judging by this not even close to release

 

They should make WQHD models too... but the question remains, will they be able to keep the release date this time? And how expensive will it be?

 

I dont know where you have take October ... Well in reality October was the announce of major Scaler producters to annonuce their support of DP 1.2a ( and so adaptiveSync ( who is needed by Free-Sync ), and that thoses scalers was enter production.

March 2015 is the date of release by Samsung of thoses monitors. Who tell you no other brand or series monitors are not coming before.
This not AMD who will dictate to brands when they should release their products... Same for Nvidia, you think Nvidia was pleased to get Asus annonce the ROG Swift nearly 6-8 months before it have finally hit the shops ?
Simply brands have their own roadmaps for release their monitors, their products...

This said, im 100% sure that you will see in CES 2015, this next January, all thoses monitors presented to the press by Samsung.

And lets be honest, if Samsung support it and is one of the first monitors brand to announce it, we should not wait too much time for see other brands coming with the same thing, in addition of ALL brands who just use Samsung Panel ( and scaler chips linked to them )

 

AMD promised them by october to most of all the tech reviewers and noone got any info after that, afterwards it was said december will be launch and again not true while now they are saying march next year is the launch window every time they shed any light on the state freesync is actually in right now not just keep promising and not delivering, although amd has always been like that os yeah no surprise there

So in May they was announce they expect to see products in 6-12months.. after that Vesa have complete the standard

nothing against you, i know many peoples ( including me ) who have make the misstake between the words "samples are send next month" and the retail availability.. sample are not production models, but test models.

Maybe in early 2014 they was think it will be available in the end of the year.. but in between, there's VESA who had do their standard and finalize the DP1.2a, this take time to be created and validated, etc etc.

 

Cant help but pity those who jumped into the G sync camp thinking there doing the right thing.
How foolish they must feel after reading this thread.
I know I would hate myself if I blew a tone of cash on tech that's obsolete 6 mths after release..
Well it don't pay to be loyal I hope this will teach them a lesson.

 

They paid extra, but have this tech earlier. I think for someone who has nV card it is worth it. Especially if they were sitting on 60Hz till purchase.

 

I jumped into G-SYNC but I guess it is not a mistake. As far as I know FREESYNC should not be superior to G-SYNC - I think that both will be comparable. I believe that G-SYNC will not be obsolete in 6 months, just hopefully less expensive Competition is usually a good thing I am aware that I might paid a little extra but I can enjoy G-SYNC earlier this way. Well, from my experience: there is always something newer/better/faster announced in PC components, so someone may wait infinitely to get newer/better/faster hardware, or simply purchase what is available and change it / upgrade it every few years.

Mistake...not even close. First there was VHS and BETAMAX. BETA was the superior format but lost out to VHS. Then there was LaserDisc and DVD came and trounced that. But LaserDisc was out for a good while before DVD appeared. Then most recently there was HD DVD and BluRay. BluRay won that battle. G-SYNC was announced and now on the market. FreeSync is still nowhere to be seen. If a FreeSync demo existed, there would have been talk here about how the two techs compared. Sadly there is not even a demo yet. So to say the early G-SYNC adopters blew it has yet to be seen. Retail is fickle. Until the techs can be seen side-by-side no mistakes can be made. It is impossible.

This is exciting news but no one knows how this will play out. If I had an Nvidia card, there would be no hesitation on grabbing a G-SYNC enabled monitor. Why, because it exists and AMD's version is still unproven.

 

I don't see how those examples are relevant. Unless you can't play porn on freesync monitors and can play on gsync monitors

 

You never know if something is as good as the other until a comparison is made between the final products. Maybe AMD made the right choice, or maybe nVidia brought something, that FreeSync can not beat. Who knows? Also, when nVidia released GSync there were no alternatives(and there won't be for a while), so the price was high, but for some people it was and still is a good choice to pick a GSync monitor. Isn't this the same with all new tech, that is released on the market? On the plus side of the whole story - the technology is there, the competition is there and these are the best conditions for the development of something new.

 

Examples were given to show that just because there is competing tech, there is no guarantee that the better tech will prevail. It also gives insight that early adopters get to enjoy whatever tech is released longer and like the video examples, the market will decide which survives and which dies regardless of quality.

EDIT: Just like DVD and BluRay still share the market, G-SYNC and FreeSync could just end up existing side-by-side for as long as the tech survives.

I for one had zero intention going with freesync, I waited a long time for g-sync & I'm over the moon with it. As for spending a "tone of cash" well I personally can afford it very easily we're called pc enthusiasts & its an expencive hobby. Also "tech that's obsolete 6 mths after release.." everything in a new build is obsolete after 6 months or so its been that way from day 1 with pc components,If you want to keep up you have to spend money simple as that. Now you learnt a lesson about the pc enthusiasts market.
