Samsung SSD 840 EVO Performance Restoration

Good news it seems.
Magician 4.6 and new firmware are out. 840 EVO performance appears fixed.
Still not available through official Samsung website.

I hope its permanent cus I been using too many writes backing up my evo when performance decreases and restoring it with acronis.

 

So does anyone know if this works or not? I ended up taking out my samsung SSD because it slowed to a crawl compared to my WD black. If I can save it I would rather do that than RMA

Do we have to use Magician, didn't the last fix come as a stand alone package that updated firmware and restored performance in one go. I have serious doubts about letting Magician anywhere near my computer after the last time I tired to use it.

 

From what I have been reading, we will have to use Magician. That advance option will only be available in the app. Also, this is not a fix. It's a half assed attempt at a fix.

 

It's not a fix, it's a placebo. Doesn't change anything about a broken device, just puts you up for being annoyed another time later.

 

Im getting over 500MB/s reads but my writes are shocking, in the mid 250's.
My Sandisk 250GB downloads/programs drive is faster than my 840 OS/games drive.

 

Well sad to hear its not a real fix. Guess I will pick up a mushkin or more likely a crucial SSD when I get the extra cash. Hopefully I can get my money back from samsung since my 840 evo is still under warranty.

So they were able to create a buggy software to update a buggy firmware for a buggy drive? Wow, Samsung really is losing any respect I had for them quite fast.

That's crap. I would send mine if I knew how to. Seems to be working so far, updated the bios with Magician 4.6 which went smooth. Time will tell if it fixes the slow down. Should be getting evo 850 today so will use the 840 as second drive which will give it plenty of idle time for the firmware to keep it running nice. If it works of course

 

Could someone please upload the magician 4.6 update that was released today? Not talking about the one that was released on the 13th of April.

 

Can anyone Upload a mirror as Samsung has put a download limit on the file and its already been exceeded.
