I got to laugh, just an hour ago in another thread I read this:

I know they won't sky rocket, but it's amazing...

That's because your average consumer doesn't care for price if it needs the good.

But seriously, a top of the art samsung fab doesn't have a backup?

Meh.... Good thing I'm set for at least 2 years with my current build (likely 4-5 years as I don't play a lot of really demanding games right now).

Depends on the cause of the outage. If the problem happened in the facility then a backup power source like a backup generator would not matter. Plus the switch over to backup could cause the damage as well. Electricity is a fickle mistress.

Samsung PR: What can we do to improve NAND sales and profits?
Samsung CEO: Let's damage ours NAND supplies and join cryptocurrency bandwagon. Other companies increased their annual revenue by 200% by selling less. No worries we did similar things in the past, no once will catch us. And if they do it'll be too late or we'll just bribe them :D.

But seriuosly, don't they have backup generators for critical production lines or insurrence that would cover the loss?

Yup... a very obvious lie to keep prices inflated.

Oh they probably got insurance, and as the OP says, they have expected lower demands at the start of the year anyhow, with abundant supplies on store. They are just trying to grab a bit more cash I think ;)

soooo, if 3.5% of March total production = 30 minutes, they can satisfy the whole demand in march in less than one day? Good to know. I wonder what they make rest of the time....Crystal Meth?

Let's have a moment of silence for the 60,000 NAND wafers that died.

such power-critical-fabs like that should even have their own power generator
if not redundant with dedicated line from power-company

so i am guessing its more electrical failure at the fabs
probably something shorting causing in fabs electrical break-down
like in your house, when there is eletronic shorting, then circuit breaker drop the power-line

    Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.........!!!!

Just when am I going to be able to build another PC for a "decent" price on some new parts....?!?!

Only buy new so as to get that warranty treatment..., but these prices as of late will make mofo's hurt someone for a deal...

Even if it wasnt because of outside the fab problems (should have genererator and battery buffer), the whole plant being affected means bad design/construction .
Or are you running all you appliances from a single outlet??

Yeah. That was exactly the first thing that came to mind when reading the thread title. There is no way that this fab doesn't have battery backup systems and generators to keep things online in case of a power failure.

Ummm the 60,000 were damaged during the power outage, not MADE during the 30 minutes. Learn to read seriously
